  1. Fascinating insight into Sicario's cinematography. https://medium.com/@ValleyFilms/sicario-cinematography-breakdown-e9f267a3fd48#.1leacgdsd
  2. Oh pray tell your first good sir? Mine was Carol, for the record. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2402927/ http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/carol/
  3. I presume this is on the back of Sicario? If you haven't seen it, you need to do so immediately - almost certainly my favourite film of 2015.
  4. Gorgeous, gorgeous film. Fans of The Thin Red Line and Southern Comfort would do well to see it asap.

Fair enough, I'm still seething about our 'Pinball Wizard' defending though.

Anyone else think Cech was a bit lazy for the first goal? A simple leg stuck out, say, a foot, could have prevented that. Maybe he was off-balance I dunno.
  7. I watched a live Q&A stream of this featuring the editor, Chris Wyatt (This is England, Dead Man's Shoes) and he said the same thing about Carpenter. I was suprised by just how tense this film was. Pulls absolutely no punches whatsoever. Think Behind Enemy Lines but without the jingoism and all-round naffness.
  8. Odeon Leicester Square have ramped their ticket prices up to £20 a pop for this. Profiteering shithawks.
  9. Thanks for this, I've never seen it before. Great stuff.
  10. Saw this last night, thought it was cool but just a bit silly. Points of note: Matt Damon is hopelessly unlucky with airlocks isn't he? Lots of experts explaining experty things to other experts in an experty way – like the wormhole explanation scenes from Event Horizon and Interstellar. The bursting-the-glove and hissing through space scene was very Wall-E mating ritual. Storms on Mars would never be that bad. It'd be a slightly grainy breeze. Lots of good humour and it's quite funny watching Damon blowing himself up. 'Science the shit out of it' is one of the worst lines I've heard in any film for a long time. Seems you can verb anything these days WINKY.
  11. I thought a A Very Murray Christmas was just a bit of harmless fun. A one-off that'd you watch once. Also, and I never thought I'd say this, but Miley Cyrus nails her version of Silent Night.
  12. Only you could be such a last-word prick in a memoriam thread. Pack it the fuck in.
  13. This is such a brilliantly shit film. However, FIVE sequels?
  14. I saw Todd Haynes' Carol today, which is set over the Christmas period. Oh it's exquisite too, so that helps. Edward Scissorhands for a more obvious suggestion.
  15. Speaking of which, is there a cinema where you can get an unlimited film-viewing membership for a good price, one which specialises in world/indie cinema? Best one I've seen is Curzon, at £350 a year. That's still £30 a month mind. The last four cinema trips I've been to (all at Odeons) have had people with the worst etiquette talking the whole way through the fucking film. I think that'd be less prevalent at an arthousey venue.
  16. I would have gone for Happy-Go-Lucky. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1195103-happy_go_lucky
  17. Showgirls. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114436/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 Well, the swimming pool sex scene looks like she's slaying a vampire, anyway.
  18. Smack the Pony and Big Train for surreal laughs.

My mate and his dad are season ticket holders and often sell their passes for the day. Want me to ask?
  20. Saw Alien and Aliens back to back at the cinema last Saturday. Stone-cold 10/10 films, absolutely flawless. My birth film is The China Syndrome. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078966/ Portentously, this happened 12 days after the film's release. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Mile_Island_accident
  21. If you liked this, you HAVE to see The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0419294/ Oh, and Slow West is excellent. If you like that brand of Coens dark humour with sporadic outbursts of intense violence and an odd couple dynamic, you'll love this.
  22. The Test Dream episode of The Sopranos, which features a 20-minute reverie where everything is batshit mental and Tony S has a prophecy and finds the solution to the Tony B dilemma. Absolutely love that episode.

    Ashes 2015

We are still talking about the first day, right?
