  1. Ultimately I think it's perfectly possible to do what Chibs is trying to achieve here. I just think it needs a better writer than he's capable of. There's elements that work but ultimately it's a massive and badly plotted mess.

It does still evoke Virgin NA feels for me though so I'm fine with it.

  2. I'm also a little way into this. Also seems to be really good

    There Is No Antimemetics Division

An antimeme is an idea with self-censoring properties; an idea which, by its intrinsic nature, discourages or prevents people from spreading it.

Antimemes are real. Think of any piece of information which you wouldn't share with anybody, like passwords, taboos and dirty secrets. Or any piece of information which would be difficult to share even if you tried: complex equations, very boring passages of text, large blocks of random numbers, and dreams...

But anomalous antimemes are another matter entirely. How do you contain something you can't record or remember? How do you fight a war against an enemy with effortless, perfect camouflage, when you can never even know that you're at war?

    Welcome to the Antimemetics Division.

No, this is not your first day.

Just looking at it you'd think it was just another load of churned out self published Kindle junk but it's actually really well written, imaginative and pretty creepy once you get to "The Impossible Object"

The Stars are Right. Humans… prepare for extinction.

Eldritch gods, cosmic horrors, and weird physics are the enemy, striking from nameless dimensions we can’t perceive, destroying us with strangeness beyond human comprehension. Major Harrison Peel understands these Great Old Ones better than anyone. He wishes he didn’t.

Forced into his latest assignment, Peel must confront an alien Outer God known only as the Impossible Object. Held in a secret facility deep in the Australian desert, no two people perceive it the same way, and it conforms to no known properties of the universe. Then the Impossible Object promises to reveal the secrets of everything, or cause all space and time to blink from existence… forever.

Are humans supposed to choose? And if so, can Peel guess the Impossible Object’s intensions? For the fate of everything could rest entirely in his hands…

For fans of weird science fiction, Delta Green and Charles Stross’s The Laundry, the Harrison Peel series is a collection of interconnected cosmic horror stories that explore the world, and the entire universe, of H. P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos, stretched across all space and time.

Paul McGann first if you’re talking mini series.  Thing is would that not confuse the general public on who the current one is?

I don't expect for a moment that we'd get a side series with a different Doctor but if it was possible to have one I'd prefer the Ruth doctor since we know so little about her and to be fair to McGann he's been very, very, very well served by Big Finish.

Oh, I didn't even realise there were any specials coming up. I though it was two more episodes of this series then over to RTD.

My point still stands though, this is all going to end with a big reset which means future writers can ignore it completely if they so wish.

New Year special, one special at some point next year and then a final new year special. I suppose the final episode could be unrelated but I do think the Division isn't going to wrap up until next year even though Swarm will be beaten in two episodes.

Also I agree with you Darren. Chibs is going to put the toys back in the box for RTD to do what he wants with. At least up to a point. I don't know if the Timeless Child stuff is going to stick but it's possible it might not play out the way we currently think it does (Ruth runs from the Division, gets caught and mind wiped.) There's a distinct possibility of another twist.

  6. Given the preview promotional shot for the new year special there may be some elements of Flux carrying forward into at least one more special (And I suspect the final two also.

At this point I'm expecting all this stuff with the Division to reach a peak in the final special next year. Given it's going to be a regeneration episode they're going to want to max out the stakes.

Edit* Also I'm absolutely loving Swarm. (Azure far less so). He's strutting around the place camp as hell and chewing the scenery like a universe ending Disney villain and I love it. I kinda wish he could just be a Master replacement but sadly I think they started him out a bit too high stakes for that.

    Spoiler thoughts for The Passenger

    Spoiler

    Proto-Tardis?

Apparently RTD is keen on introducing more Doctor Who Spinoffs. Here's hoping for a Jo Martin side series. Even if it's just a limited run because she's fucking excellent.

Hmm…cheers guys, that doesn’t sound like it’s what I’m after really.

The Sonic Racing @milko was either on the Wii or XBone, I can’t remember which, just that we had it at work and I thought it was terrible.

You can't be talking about Sonic Racing Transformed surely? That game is really good.

How do you even get in the queue? I cannot see anywhere you can actually register interest.

On the Sony Direct site? When they are about to start a queue they change the landing page for the site to a pre-queue page. Just sit on that. If you want a PS5 follow this twitter account. You can login to PSN after you get past the queue but it's quicker to prelogin while the site has no PS5s.

I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I think that if you've had the email then your chances are good. I think any that remain unclaimed at 10am on the day are then offered on general sale to anyone who didn't have an email on a first-come-first-served basis. When I tried this last week bang on 10am, I was at position 38,000+.

I think the PS5 Stock alerts twitter said that queue positions for Sony Direct are assigned randomly when the queue starts.

  10. My friend has been trying for weeks to get a PS5. He follows PS5 Stock alerts on twitter but was never lucky getting through the queues. Today on the Sony direct site it put him at over 10k. I joined the queue for a laugh and got put at 38. He's now looking at options to get his new PS5 shipped from me to him :)

  11. I wasn't looking forward to this one. Seemed like it was going to be a bog standard base under siege with an enemy that has long overstayed it's welcome. In fact it was very, very good and added much needed extra depth to the Angels while propelling the plot along at a good clip.

It's obvious that Chibs has decided to go out with a bang and is writing his own Virgin NA epic. I heartly approve of this decision.

Just finished One Day All This Will Be Yours by Adrian Tchaikovsky. It's another of his novellas, but definitely one of his best. It has elements of This Is How You Lose The Time War, and maybe also a bit of There Is No Antimemetics Division, and has an enjoyably cocky antihero narrator.

It's probably my second favourite of his books, after Children of Time.

Despite it being a novella and normally finding them overpriced I went to take a look since I do like Adrian.

    Of course.

  13. I've never played Halo before. I've never really liked the campaigns so I didn't bother. I always tended to like larger scale games like Battlefield so I could just be a minor cog in a big mechanism.

Turns out I really, really like this Halo MP. Especially the big team matches. I don't think there's an objective mode in those I haven't been having fun with. I'm normally not so good with PvP FPS games. My old man reflexes aren't so hot and the super fast time to kill in most of those don't really suit me and they get frustrating.

But I seem to be getting better and better at Halo MP. The last match I did (Total control) I think was my best yet.

So proud of my killing spree medal.
