NonShinyGoose replied to strider's topic in Retro & Arcade Gaming
Kinda repeating everybody else's list here but... Sonic the Hedgehog Asterix Mickey Mouse Castle of Illusion Wonder Boy III Alex Kidd in Miracle World -
TMNT Training Lair is free and easy, gents. Needs a Kinect though.

The bonus mission (set on an unfinished map) is a good place to get some achievements you may have missed. In fact, it feels like it was designed for achievement grinding.

Narco Terror is terrible. How apt.

You're a good boy, Peeveen.

Generally speaking, the GG doesn't have many terrible games. Plenty of mediocre games, granted, but very few truly awful ones. Europe was treated to the pick of crop, pretty much. This was a slightly different case in the US though, where there was a lot of licensed crap released. The Disney games hold up well (be sure to try the lesser known sequels Mickey Mouse: Legend of Illusion and Donald Duck: Deep Duck Trouble), and so do most of SEGA's first party efforts. Sonic Triple Trouble, Baku Baku Animal, Ristar, Wonder Boy are recommended. Codemasters' games also - Micro Machines, Dizzy, Cosmic Spacehead, etc. I've always had a soft spot for Mortal Komabat I and II, and also Marco's Magic Football - very impressive visually for an 8-bit title If you don't mind opening your wallet, imports Gunstar Heroes and Mega Man are worth keeping an eye out for too.

Nice going on South Park, MattyHustedUk. Doesn't look like the easiest game to 100%

Dozens of unplayed games, and I found myself playing Hexic HD.

There's a lot of bad spider-man games

The Master System spidey got great reviews back in the day. One SEGA magazine even said it was "almost as good as Sonic". I can recall spending one whole hard earned pound renting it out and thinking it was pretty poor. I might be in the minority about this one. I don't know. -

Was it this? -
Games which tease a sequel which never exists.

Dungeon Keeper 2 teased a sequel. The ending saw the creatures finally reach the surface, suggesting the third DK would be above ground. -
Retro Gamer goes to the movies (it's a list feature)

Alien 3. Played it recently and the music is still ace, especially on the SNES version.

Now where did I put that copy of Shrek the Third....

Chris Evans launched the CD32. Enough said. http://oldschoolgameblog.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/amigacd32pleasance.jpg

How about the incredibly obscure Casio Loopy? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d0/Casio-Loopy-Console-Set.png/800px-Casio-Loopy-Console-Set.png Only 10 games were released, and they were mostly about dressing up and painting things pretty colours. It only had one controller port too. You could, however, print stickers out - it had a thermal printer built in.

The Jaguar had lots of good games. The problem was that 90% of those were available on other formats.
-
How about the Super Vision? Every game as bad as the last. http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_kz9ixicFkJ1qzqgkn.jpg Very blurry screen also. Pity the kid on Bad Influnce who picked one to play in the background while the other kids played Game Gears and Game Boys.

I have a US 32X on a UK MD 1 that has had a region switch fitted. http://www.gamesasylum.com/wp-content/uploads/Sega32X2.jpg I've never tried a PAL game on it, but I can play US games. Apparently the 32X is just a slave device that goes by the region of MD? The switch lets me change between US and Japanese versions of some of the games - Cosmic Carnage becomes Cyber Brawl, and Metal Head has different presentation. As Lorfarius said, a few games are region free. Not many though.

Great retro stuff that can only be bought in America?

Take a look at Amazon.com Marketplace and see if anything takes your fancy. I have seen some incredibly cheap bits and pieces on there in the past.
