It's not as simple as the manager though with United. They have multiple massive structural failings which are massive roadblocks to success, however good the coach is. The recruitment has been disjointed and tragic, it was performed by people who went for names above all else. It's hard to know how quickly they can turn the whole recruitment process around into something functional. There's a lot changing higher up, and structurally at the moment, more than at any point since Fergie and Gill left, which is perhaps the biggest cause of some glimmer of hope.. But whether it's enough, or the right changes will take time to know. In any case, I think it's going to be a good few years (even in the best case scenario) before the Death Star is fully operational again. The Ewoks have got a bit more time to party down yet.
  2. Nobody 4/5 Bob Odenkirk, Christopher Lloyd and RZA get the band back together to kick chumps through windows and shoot Russian gang sorts in the face for 92 minutes. A very fun, daft and snappy throwback action man-puncher with zero fat and some great performances.

  4. i'm enjoying the race between Arsenal and Spurs for 4th this season. It's interesting when you get a face-off between the unstoppable force that is 'Typical Arsenal' vs. the immovable object which is 'A bit Spursy'.

He'll bring that authentic Dutch vibe the club has been lacking for a few years.

I wonder what will happen to Garnacho next season. He seems ahead of the curve a bit for a 17 year old (almost 18). Perhaps Ten Hag might decide to integrate him into the first team, I feel like there's probably going to be space for opportunities in a thinner squad. Or maybe a good loan to a Championship club.

If they beat Palace away, then they've got a pretty good shot at getting that second Europa spot, hoping that City beat Wes.....oh God what have I become??
  8. Have any of you folks had any emails from them recently? (not shipping related, just general keeping in touch ones) The last one I had was was "Playdate Owner's Update #1" on 11/11/21. Which seems an abnormally long time ago. They've not gone to junk or anything as far as i can tell.
  9. I was at the Birmingham show last Friday too. We really enjoyed it! Didn't really have any idea of what to expect..

It's been a little while since they won one or even made the final. - I want to say the Pogba/Ravel/Lingard/Keane(s) team? Chelsea had a really dominant run in the last 10 or so years.

I think Chicarito was probably the last one. It became clear he was going to fit in well when he scored his debut goal by kicking the ball into his own face.

I'd love to see some of the younger players getting more minutes in the final games. Top four is gone, this team is drifting along and it's clear there are players in the squad who can't be arsed/have checked out. I'd argue that they ideally shouldn't be playing anyone who they know is leaving at this point. Hannibal at least would be great to see start a game, Shoretire too haven't seen much of for a while in the first team. As for next season, Garner has a great shot at making the squad under Ten Hag I think. Will also be interesting to see whether he fancies bringing Williams and Laird back, given their issues in the full back positions. Be interesting to see if he fancies keeping Amad and/or Pellestri around too. Amad at least seems to have so much potential.

I feel like literally anyone in that pic could do though to be fair.

I see what you're saying here, it's most likely part of it, but these teams have big squads because they play a lot of games, rotation is necessary. Maguire's (or any defender) personal level shouldn't drop because sometimes he plays with Lindelof, sometimes Varane. City (sorry) for example change their back four constantly and have one of the best defences in the league. Which leads onto.... I think this is actually the crux of the matter. One of United's biggest weaknesses is the lack of dominant defensive midfielders. They don't really have any of them at all. The personnel and system aren't there to support the defense at all. They're constantly exposed and make mistakes. Maguire has had a poor season by comparison to his first couple, made a lot of really bad errors, but I think he's a bit of a lightning rod because he's always playing in a team that conceded because of defensive failures. He's the captain of a ridiculed team, he was bought for twice his value etc. He's also very meme-able, which doesn't help staving off the bandwagon. I'd hope and expect him to pick up form next season (assuming Ten Hag fancies playing him), because they'll have a clearer system and hopefully a couple of strong midfield additions.

Seems like the wheels are turning at least. Their recruitment has been so tragic. Being Man United is like playing Football Manager with a load of cheat codes, it's pretty crazy how the club is in this state.

Yeah, it's all spin really. Football teams are always transitioning and rebuilding, all the time. The way it's talked about at United is less building, more failing to move forward and wasting another year because there's no clear plan, then repeat the cycle. I think United have an identity crisis, they buy high profile players, high salaries like they're a top team while talking about rebuilding. A team like City, Bayern etc could support a purchase like Ronaldo, Sanchez and get the best out of them - because they have more confidence in the structure than can support an essentially luxury player. I guess the knowledge and vision hasn't been there, or been ignored - but a true rebuild needs a firm idea on the way you want to play, then to identify up and coming players who fit it and are hungry to make a name for themselves, at United. Hopefully the new structures and brains involved have finally turned a corner and if it's to be a proper rebuild then that's what is needed. The Glazer roadblocks are still there, but I'm more optimistic that this is the case than at any point since Fergie, now it's just about execution.
  20. Perhaps the helmet visor has some kind of Polarizing Filter to help with glare and relections?
  21. I managed to do this as about the first thing I did after emerging from the tutorial. Before I could level up, had a mount - or crucially know about fast travelling between grace sites. I did a lot of sneaking and running!
  22. I remember that yeah. I remeber Edge magazine being incredibly hot on AW1 on GBA - and that long delay to finally get to play it. The right decision to delay it I think given the circumstances.
