Well, after the sheen and smoothness of Ridge Racer Wipeout just seemed to chug and jerk and load sloow and, well, I guess I'm not a good judge because I never really got on with the Wipeout games. I was crap at them/never found them fun. I'm just being honest from my POV, no dissing meant to Wipeout players. That and it's really just first, limited, judgemental impressions with the PSP. I just hope these 4 games don't comprise the heart of the launch strategy. Ridge is the only game that can sell it imo.

So, I had my first evening (well, a couple of hours before I was bored stiff) with a UK PSP with 4 games (Ridge Racer, Everybody's Golf, Wipeout and some awful game with 'Ape' in it's title.) The Machine: (obviously) Very nice indeed. Stunning screen etc. though as per usual Sony don't see the relevance of diagonals in game pads. Perhaps if they didn't have an pathological fear of 2D gaming they'd do something about this. The Analogue pad works surprisingly well though it might take a game like Monkey Ball to see what it's really made of. Everybody's Golf: Slick, but it's a golf game i.e. charming and relaxing when you're in the right mood but, well, it's a golf game. Ridge Racer: Dazzling. Great fun. Genuinely impressive. Makes you feel like the PSP is top secret alien technology or something. Including New Rally X was a masterstroke. Wipeout: Naff. Sub PS1 fodder. Hopelessly dated, contrived and as dull as your nan. Boooring. The 'Ape' Game: Absolutely atrocious. Shite. No redeeming features whatsoever. The US military should look at using this game in it's 'secret' torture camps. The Verdict: Lumines better be as good as everyone says because in terms of game quality the DS shits on it from a height. Of course this doesn't really matter because even a month before launch Sony have already outdone Nintendo in the innovative and interesting promotion stakes.

HIV & the Positives made me chuckle. I'm not going to check if they have a website though.

£15 is too high. A fiver seems about right.

I love Batman. They should've included '200 Balloons' on it though. That's a tough track. I also really liked 'Feel U Up', another ace b-side from that era.

How could I forget Master System Spy Vs Spy: To many it's nothing more than an endless, annoying cacaphony. To me, it's musical genius lies in the way the staccato skank shifts into bouncy futurist funk and then right back before you know it. I've formulated an arrangement of it that will someday be played by a worthy group of musicians. I find it a fascinating example of pure aural videogame sex.

On the PS2? Yeah. But I might've used a whole bunch of credits. I'm sure I found a couple of the later levels harder. G3 is definitely the sickest, rockbollockhardest Gradius. The Snes version's much more fun.

Also interesting. As well as being simpler your method probably also has a better success rate.

How I do it is like this: - Type 1 ('freeze'), 2 speed ups, Standard bullets - no laser or double, and at least 3 multiples. - As you approach the massive clump position an hold(R1) your multiples vertically with your ship nearer the bottom of the screen. Move your ship to the back (left) of the screen and only press fire at the last moment, simultaneously edging your ship forward through the newly created temporary pathway. Being on the bottom half of the screen you'll get a breather soon in the form of a goo-less space. Now, for the second, much longer stretch, arrange your multiples vertically once again and start firing at the last moment and edge forward. Your multiples and slight edging should take care of some of the beasties, and when you've almost reached the end of the screen relax your hold over the multiples momuntarily. This should result in a multiple held resting just behind your ship where it can spank a few bits of newly regenerated goo that otherwise might've spanked you right at the end.

I used to think she was the most beautiful thing on the telly. Now she grates on all levels.

I'll continue to take an interest in BB but no more viewing the main show. What with Anthony being the only person in there I don't strongly dislike BB will now inevitably be unwatchable bollocks. Science was the best housemate in memory.
