A new Macross series is finally upon us! I enjoyed the first episode (although perhaps that's simply because I'm hyped at the prospect of more Macross). It was pretty silly, especially in the second half, but the characters were reasonably likeable so that's an immediate improvement over Frontier. It's early days but in terms of overall tone, Delta definitely feels like a cross between Frontier and 7. I suspect that's more likely to put people off though.

It's more of the same. If you don't like what you've seen so far, you definitely won't like the rest.

Who on earth is paying for all this? It seems rather too good to be true.

I'm inclined to agree but even so, I still really like the stuff she did for Frontier. It helps that the show itself is kind of a distant memory at this point so I can enjoy the music without dwelling too much on the baggage that came with it.

I've been listening to the Macross Plus and Frontier soundtracks for the first time in a few years. I'd forgotten just how good they are. It really has me pining for that new series although goodness knows how long it'll be before that actually materializes.
  6. The shots of the X-wings and the Falcon are awesome. The forest bit reminds me of Game of Thrones though.
  7. Like womblingfree says, there's no need to panic (just yet). From ANN: Ghibli really should have spent the last few decades 'creating an environment for the next generation' of animation talent but it seems that Miyazaki is such a horribly bitter old man that there was never any chance of that happening while he was still in charge.

Where does Taimanin Asagi fit in to this tale of misery and woe?

Edit: I forgot to mention that the video and images are NSFW / Meh approved. Talking of live action anime, a bunch of filmakers and artists have come together to create some sort of homage to the original Ghost in the Shell movie. It's all slightly misleading though. I mean, the video above seems to imply that they're putting together a live action version of the film's intro sequence but apparently, the purpose of the project was simply to create a series of still images. They do look pretty awesome though.
  10. Fuck me. I mean, I guess it was inevitable but still, seeing it writ large in a press release like that... It's pretty fucking weird. Also, that press release seems to boil down to... 'Look guys, all those interconnected books and comics and games were never really canonical. Only the stuff that George had a hand in were truly considered as canon OK? P.S. We'd like to take this opportunity to announce a brand new continuity consisting of books, comics and games, none of which George has anything to do with.' ...which falls somewhere between quite odd and massively ironic. It'll be fascinating, in a rather morbid way, to see how they go about repurposing elements of the old EU.

There's nowt wrong with the second season of Stand Alone Complex you bastards. Eden of the East. It's what the director (and creative team?) behind Stand Alone Complex did next.

Yeah, sounds about right. I'm just going to set my expectations as low as possible and then maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Well, it can't be any worse than Frontier... right?
