  4. Brilliant list but would add Hipsway, Rod's Every picture tells a story, Exile on Main St, Adverntures beyond ultraworld, Tin Drum, Listen without prejudice, Pills thrills n bellyaches
  5. Just save time and get them all - they're all pretty great. Bit like New Order - you can't go wrong with 80s releases.
  6. I watched this a while back and it really took me back to '84. Im convinced Minder was on that night as well.
  7. I think the PS3 will start to outsell the other 2 and it may be sooner than later. I suspect the figures from this Xmas will be much tighter than is being predicted. Gran Turismo 5 will be the killer game IMO that saves the PS3 from oblivion. As to when Sony start making a profit from the console - maybe never!
  8. I still reckon that in a year/18 moths max the 3 consoles will all be within 10 % of each other in terms of market share - My guess: Wii 38% 360 32 % PS3 30 % It will mean a very healthy level of competition among developers and probably create the most exciting generation of video-gaming.
  9. please close - don't know how this ended up here!!!
  10. I have a psp with 2.0 firmware. Tried a few methods to get it to 1.5 but I always get 'the game could not be started 80020148' error message. This means the machine stays at 1.0. Would I be better upgrading to 2.71 first then moving down to 1.5? (some sites suggests 2.71 to 1.50 is easier??)
  11. Freedom Force has some cool rts fighting against large monsters.
  12. It is the richest purple patch in over 30 years of video gaming history. I don't think this density of quality releases will be repeated again in the next decade. You missed Bioshock, Metroid, Zelda Phantom Hourglass, and Halo 3 from ur list.
  13. Something tells me that in a year or so's time the market will be fairly evenly shared with each company holding around a third. Its a fantastically competitive scenario to look forward to and I think will ensure this period will be the richest in gaming history both in terms of quality of games (which we've already seen this year) and value to the consumer. It's win-WIN!
  14. Big thanks to the op. Been listening to Solid Air all week - didn't realise he was a fellow Glaswegian! Cheers its a truly great album that's went under my radar for years and years!! (ok I was only 2 when it came out)

I'm regularly up for a game at night - gamertag = stefmcd
  16. You make it sound very good but better than excite trruck? They got into my mind with that one and made my perfect game.
  17. Definitely - thanks to Mame, Xboxlive, and Virtual Console this is cheap and mainstream. Nostalgia factor will ensure retros popularity. Nothing quite captures the excitement of the games u played in ur youth. As games become more lengthy and complex we will have a yearning for the simplicity of the games of yore.
  18. Piracy didnt save xbox or dreamcast. It might persuade some to rebuy a ps2 for some mega cheap quality gaming.
  19. Christmas 2000 was just dominated by this game. It just felt so good - graphics impeccably smooth, and the difficulty curve was perfect, cool music (if limited). Despite accepting the leap in graphics, variation and flexibility of the PGRs esp 2, I've never been quite as excited as I was by this. I think perhaps its a bit like some with Mariokart. The followups are clearly more advanced but at the core the original shines. I wonder if its rose-tinted though. What do the peeps who first played pgr and go back to this game think? When I went back to original MK I really didn't see what the fuss was about having first played MK64 and been in love with that.
  20. Interesting. Yep there isthe inescapable implication is that man's nature never changes - just the tools used to fulfill his desires.
  21. Like all Kubrick - incl eyes wide shut - the film has a compelling, hypnotic quality. This guy's films have a rarely encountered intensity. U just don't feel for a second u r watching something artificial. The cut between the spinning club and the space station is one of the most famous of all time - in a milli-second we have a million year jump underlining man's progress. The sterile look of the film is also very effective. A great cameo from a younger Leonard Rossiter (Rigsby) playing a Russian cosmonaut is just one of the many gems to be found in this movie. A very profound and moving piece of film. It's not entertainment - its an experience. I can alos highly recommend - The Killing, Paths of Glory, Dr Strangelove, Barry Lyndon, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket and ,yes honestly, Eyes wide shut. All have the distinctive Kubrick touch. I have never got round to watching Clockwork Orange - had it on dvd for a while - must watch it.
  22. If I was black I would be indignant that my race had been completely ignored as potential victims in such a magnificent franchise - 4 installments in! So, if anything, this scenario is in fact rectifying the racism by ommission of the previous versions. I seem to remember such accusations being levelled at San Andreas - so again its the pc brigade wanting their cake and eat it. It was ok to have 2 games where a white character is violent and involved with drugs, prostitution ect but as soon as the character was black it was racist. Again San Andreas simply levellled the playing field.
  23. 'Ah once more the worm has turned and Dame Fortune has hugged Montgomery Burns to her sweet-scented bosom.........somebody up there likes me Smithers' 'Somebody down here likes u too Sir' 'Shut-up'
