  1. Living in Newcastle, and hailing from Sunderland, I've seen them an awful amount of times, including a Stars In Their Eyes type thing last December where they brought the house down as Fleetwood Mac.

Top band, and top lads if you ever get the chance to speak to them. Londonites really should go to this, you won't be disappointed.

  2. Didnt see the straight story then?

Exactly, which does what it says on the 'tin'. Blue Velvet, for all its bizarreness, is simple to understand also.

That Lynch completely nails those feelings of confusion and unease that drench our dreams and nightmares via startling imagery, characters and sequences is, for me, what makes him a great director and what made Inland Empire one of the greatest cinema experiences of my life thus far (the one-off setting of Gateshead Town Hall with supremely comfy sofas followed by a walk through heavy fog back to Newcastle discussing the film admittedly enhanced events, but it was a match made in heaven/limbo).

Let's call for filmmaking to be standardised, eh? 1 hour 40 minutes of running time will do; ban symbolism, allegory and all that other abstract nonsense; stick dear David on a freight train to the Kamchatka tundra with nowt but a flask of his own branded coffee and a 20 pack of Lambert & Butler. Dear me.

  3. You might be surprised.

    Quite.

I enjoyed it, nonetheless. The delivery of the line

    "Apple... apple flood"

(I'm probably paraphasing, but hey) tickled me most of all.

Unfortunately, I was ushering the North East's opening gala so had to contend with 110 wretched bairns and some right moody chebends from Fox, but at least I got to keep the branded T-shirt. Hey ho.

  4. I'd just like to say...

In the future, if you're wondering: "Crime... boy, I don't know" is when I decided to kick your ass.

...is one of the most badass lines ever delivered in the history of television.

  5. So, yep, looking forward to this very much. July 17th at the Tyneside Cinema. I'm there.

Give me the secret Rllmuk handshake, and I'll sort you out with a pot of spiced cashews if I'm on the bar.

Gotta say, I'm really looking forward to Moon and its pared-down sci-fi slant. Rockwell's always class too.
