It's still Saints Row, but they spent a lot of time refining the combat to make it feel really good. They have added more options and choices when players are in fights. There will be XP and leveling to unlock skills, along with perks though it isn't based on what Volition has done with previous games. There is a new twist in how they are handling it. Said to have a lot of depth. Fast travel confirmed. You will be able to call in reinforcement as you grow your empire. Districts are built with traversal variety Financial districts for example had massive tall skyscrapers that offered verticality. You can jump and use the wingsuit off of them. In the video presentation we saw deserts, canyons, green golf fields, small towns, harbors, and more. The world itself offers tons of opportunities for sandbox fun. They showed off-road driving, carjacking, construction demolition, and a helicopter picking up a car as fireworks went off behind it. Built with exploration in mind and the most diverse sandbox Volition has created yet.

  3. It's got drop-in-out co op throughout.. but the series hasn't had anything beyond that since some deathmatch-y stuff in SR2..

I'm sure it'll follow the Saints template in having story missions, side activities and taking over territory (though I'm hoping that like Saints 2 there's some occasional pushback from the gangs and they can reclaim neighborhoods from you if you don't respond promptly.. I do like the sound of the properties you buy being more of a gameplay mechanic than merely a daily cash boost.. Sadly the new trailer doesn't appear to have been received well at all online.. seemingly mostly due to the characters.. All the usual moaning about 'hipsters/SJWs' - by which they actually mean female and of another ethnicity than white.. as if Saints has never been a series with plenty of diversity in it.. I think many also didn't get the fact that (as usual) what your character looks like is entirely up to you.. Thing is they don't know what they want.. they complained about 3 and 4 being too out there and wanted a return to the gang stuff.. well they got that.. but it seems they wanted the same characters back also.. somehow. This does appear MUCH more along the lines of SR2 from what has been shown/talked about so far.. From the tiny bit of ingame footage you can already see there are: Activities such as stealing cars with a helicopter and a huge magnet.. Huge explosions and futuristic weapons Possibly a Genki-esque gameshow thing - Last Resort (maybe hosted by the guy in the Deadmau5 style headgear..) though this could just be the Idols factions base or something? Interesting opposition gang troop types (bullet deflecting nunchucks?) The takedowns are back.. What was really sad yesterday was that a lot of the abuse was tagged onto a tweet from Volition that their former Community Manager Mike Watson AKA 'Idolninja' passed away yesterday after a long battle with cancer. In addition to being CM, Mike was the developer of the Gentlemen of the Row mod which actually made the godawful PC port of SR2 into an actual great game with hundreds of additional little tweaks and added extras including tracking down thought lost source code to make some of the work possible. Mike retired from being Community Manager back in May as he received news his condition was terminal, but kept working on the mod so that others can develop it further.
  5. Topping the craziness of Saints 4 and Gat out of Hell (which saw the Saints become rulers of the universe before heading into the afterlife) was going to be a tall order. Sensibly Volition haven't tried and seem to be doing what a lot of fans wanted, which is going back to the open world, gang warfare theme of the first couple of games, while retaining the craziness and humor of the second and third. This is an all new Saints however, ditching the familliar locations and characters of the previous series. (Gamescom presentation, trailer, interview and a quick bit of game footage..) The few snippets of in-game footage we got.. We have our targets locked on a brand new city – Santo Ileso – a melting pot of big city business and darkened alley street crime, the perfect place to start a new criminal empire and the biggest and best playground we have ever created. Also, on a side note, the best Tacos in the American South West, (Chalupracarbra has a certain “kick” to it, if you know what I mean). The law in this city? Never heard of her. You don’t become self-made by following laws, right? Well, if you do – it sounds SUPER boring, so we’ll do it our way, thanks. The city offers a range of criminal ventures to further your interests (and make some sweet cash to boot – rent doesn’t pay itself). Saints Row recasts the purple-clad gang as a group of young friends in the southwest USA-inspired city of Santo Ileso who’ve seen their ambitions in life stifled, and so they bind together with the aim of not starting a mere street gang, but instead building an entire criminal empire. You play as whoever you want in your journey from Newbie to Boss, kicking ass and fighting… well not crime obviously. We’ll talk more about our most extensive character creator ever in time, but it wouldn’t be a Saints Row game if you couldn’t roleplay in a range of roles from bank manager to green-skinned zombie alien monster, would it? Wherever you are in that spectrum, you do you, or.. not, we’re here for it. Play nice together, or play all new pranks on your team mate. After all, who’s the Boss now? Rounding out your crew are Eli, the planner and financial guru in the group (more on this shortly); Nina, your ace driver/mechanic with a background in art history and anthropology; and Kevin, the people-pleasing DJ who’s also a thrill-seeker. Plus, as is the custom, we have seamless untethered co-op so you and a friend can create those Saints Row moments together – friendship really is magic. Three gangs currently control the city: Los Panteros, who are the physically imposing melee combat enthusiasts; the Marshalls, a private military conglomerate that favors an abundance of tech; and the anarchistic Idols, who are motivated by fame and notoriety and tend to attack in huge numbers. As the Saints begin to battle with the three other factions and slowly take over each of the regions, players can take over vacant lots in each region and use them to set up new bases. Players will be able to buy real estate properties and use them for various criminal enterprises. One such example includes starting a drug-running business using fast-food meat trucks as cover, Breaking Bad style.. "These buildings come with player choice, where and which structures you opt for will impact the world," said James Hague, design director. "Will you build your own fast-food drug-running ring? How about a protection racket? Auto theft? Arms dealership?" These bases can be used to launch new criminal ventures, usually in the form of legit fronts that are secretly disguising dodgy jobs. Players can choose what should be built on each lot, and which criminal business is actually being run – protection rackets, auto theft and arms dealing were some of the examples Volition gave us. "You're building criminal ventures, and each criminal venture is unlocking its own custom gameplay with it. And that's in addition to all the other stuff that you can do out in the world." There's apparently a lot of freedom when it comes to that - you can build a toxic waste dump in a financial district, if you want. "As you place buildings in your criminal empire you're building a crew, you're acquiring employees. Based on your choices of what buildings you place, you're also placing additional Saints there." Insurance Fraud supports a "sort of questionable medical clinic" you can build, and isn't the only returning activity, though the lads are tight-lipped on any others for now. We did spend a lot of time with a driving model to try to make it as drivable as possible," he said. "You will still be able to fire out the window like you could in previous games, but we've gone a different route in terms of the way the car combat works. You're using the car more as a weapon in Saints Row than you are using your firearms. As a result of that, we didn't feel like we needed to try to come up with that cruise control mechanic from the past." Cars aren't the only mode of transportation — aircraft, hoverboards and bikes are also in the fleet. Wingsuits are even the premise for one of Saints Row's side hustles.

That said it could be pretty interesting to have them partner one of those other teams at least to have input/shared dev on the campaign portion of the game now they have all that talent available to them.. potentially cut down on development time a bit too.. It gave CoD a shot in the arm for a while.. and they were being churned out much more regularly..
  7. 'Vastly inferior' is overstating things slightly.. They still get the PS4 Pro version (1440p) at 60fps.. Does anything on the PS5 use VRR yet?
  8. Brief Recap: Gazes looked out for the Duregar Wizard he booted overboard but he seemed to have either vanished or sank.. Realising Glen was alive (albeit unconscious and looking different) he was taken to a cabin to recover.. Caliban and Samson checked the rest of the ship. They found the mercenary (Bayleaf) and cultist who escaped the island recently dead below deck.. Perhaps tomorrow Barley can ask them what happened and if they know what happened to Brom and Leif (no sign of them onboard - so there's still hope..) The ship required more than a day of repairs, which we have been able to make.. and plan to set sail once they are complete.. In the meantime, Archibald appeared on the mainland a few days walk from Saltmarsh. Thanks to the ring, being easily hidden, he could rest at nights without incident. He almost encountered a party of bandits, but luckily spotted movement in the trees and was able to stealth away.. Eventually he was able to get a ride from a passing wine merchant and we ended as the cart drives into a (nothing looking amiss) Salmarsh.. Oh, the mercenary had a pair of magic Boots of Striding and Springing.. might be of use to Barley?

  10. Anno was a HUGE Thunderbirds fan - he even made a documentary about the phenomenon it was back in the 60's in Japan and the huge influence it's had on Manga/Anime since.. the 'team of good guys piloting multiple different super vehicles' show kinda became a thing over there..
  11. Sad to see Brian go after all this time, but he was clearly stepping back when Talks became more infrequest in favour of doing his own projects, so it's not that surprising.. Hopefully he might be back for the odd thing here and there.. Wonder who will get the Talks chair..?
  12. Essentially someone just painted a big Illithid target on the place two or three of his party have been staying regularly... Thanks for that! So was it the cultist leftovers that stole the Sea Ghost and then fell foul of the Kraken lot..? Or did the Ghost just get hijacked by Illithid & co at the island.. Guess we might find out next week.. Can only hope they were keeping prisoners alive for interrogation.. poor Brom & Leif..

Face to face with the foe who has been following them through the jungle, the group must use every ability and asset at their disposal to contend with a force that threatens to tear them apart at the very seams... Don't think it's majorly spoilery, (but probably best left until after you've seen it) D&D Beyond have an interview with Aabriya touching on some of the choices she made during the series..
  15. Following the broadcast of the last ep of EXU, next week will be... the second part of the Elder Scrolls: Blackwood tie-in.. Looks like Matt is giving up the DM's chair to Marisha for this one.. The following week will have a Talks style campaign retrospective for EXU..
  16. If you thought the end of C2 wasn't quite epic enough.. C1 is MUCH more what you'd expect.. I think we got the campaign wrap-up earlier this time.. Campaign 1's only screened after a bunch of one-shots ran by the other cast members.. I've liked Aabria as GM, though I think she's trying to tell a grander story than she perhaps has time for in just 8 sessions.. She plays things a lot faster and looser than Matt does, so it feels like she's minimizing some consequences for the players.. (just as well for Matt as he's rolled like crap all campaign..) We still don't know anything about how this will work from now on.. Will we get a few months of Campaign 3 and then another EXU series? - And will that be a direct sequel? New cast? New GM? Now they're back in the studio I'm hoping we get All Work No Play etc back too..
