Indeed the difference is quite impressive! Just not sure which one to go for?! Think Dolby Atmos has the slight edge although DTS seems less "in your face" and more subtle. The sound is also less compressed.

    Too many choices 🤣

Yeah it's not an obvious choice. In the end I chose dolby because I liked the way it sounded and the app design is much better, but DTS is probably just as good.

It's worth noting here that you only need to buy the license for use with headphones. Using Atmos or DTS X on a home theatre setup is free.

Note you can get trial versions of both Dolby Atmos and DTS Headphone X to give surround sound with those implementations a go. Worth a try think it does improve spacial sound over the standard MS one.

I'd urge anyone using headphones to do this, I found there's a pretty big difference with the windows sonic stuff. Enough to spend the 20 euro on the dolby license anyway.

The dolby app also let's you chance some settings that have a big impact on the way things sound. Counter intuitively for me the movie settings sound best, also for games. Nice to get so much control over this stuff on console.

Jesus Christ, that Tomb of the Giants is the most bullshit section I have ever experienced in a game. The bonfire being an absolute mile from the boss and the very difficult treck to get to the boss nearly had me giving up. Still I managed to get through it and beat the big lord dude.

Now at the Dukes Castle and working through.

I'm enjoying the game but it's no masterpiece like some make out. There are so many stupid design decisions that I'm surprised it gets the love it gets.

You know what's really hilarious? Managing against the odds to get down there earlier in the game. Without the Lord vessel you are greeted by an orange sealed door. And then, you have to go back up...

I love faith builds, there my stealth archer for Elden Ring. I can't help myself, everyone needs to at least have Flame, Cleanse me on their hotbar at all times and once you've spent 15 faith on that. Well, why not go 80 faith, or go faith/arcane or faith/strength and have all the  other goodies? My top incantations that I struggle to avoid re-using all the time are:

Frenzied Burst : the long range snipe spell. Essential for when you want to kill a Crucible Knight from the safety of a far away ledge.

Black Flame, Lightning Bolt or Stone of Gurranq for a easy to use and fairly quick ranged option for normal non-sniping range. Black Flame has the lovely % dot on it and I really like the ignition effect when you charge it. Lightning Bolt makes you Zeus and is very easy to hit with, Stone of Gurranq is a massive stone. A tough choice for a favourite.

The Flame of Frenzy for very good aoe damage in a pretty usable cone shape and it's available super early.

Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike for (potentially) massive damage against extremely large targets. It's occasionally very very satisfying, but also often leaves you with the "I should have just used the Envoy's Long Horn or Black Flame Tornado for the same amount of damage and a lot more reliability."

Recently I've stopped using Dragon Rot breath spells at all, because once I buy them I can't help myself. It's there, always calling to me and telling me it can solve whatever boss related problem I am currently having and the worst thing is I know it's right.

Bonus call out to Discus of Light, which I recently learnt can be paired with the Erdtree Greatshield to throw out the discus, then wait for it to come back to you and then parry it with the shield to send out a massive bolt of holy damage. It's kind of satisfying to throw out discs of light, hit things going out, hit things coming back and then if you get the timing right hit things again for massive damage. It's a lot more forgiving timing wise than a usual parry too and feels a bit like playing pingpong with yourself.

Thanks! I will experiment tonight :eyebrows:.

I'm not very far in but this game is  staggering. I can't get over how much this feels like a living and breathing city. Granted it's missing the usual people/cars density, but I'll take it. I find myself driving carefully, and trying to make sense of street signage.

The whole upgrade system is baffling, things like spending the blue points. I realized in tiny text I needed 4 points to be able to buy the next level of a thing. With so many options my usual paranoia of wondering if my build is optimal is rising but I'm hoping it all makes sense at some point.

I'm about 20 hours in and I still feel like that sometimes. The thing is, it doesn't really matter, just spend them how you think makes sense. I just kinda role play it, thinking about what suits my V. My V long ago abandoned her initial dreams of being a stealthy cyber ninja and just accepted she's more a guns blazing, katana wielding psycho so I just spend points that work with that play style. On normal difficulty you will be OP pretty soon no matter what you do.

I haven't even gotten around to properly looking into the implant stuff...

I’ve gotten really bogged down and discouraged in Caelid. Finding it hard to go back.

I think I ended up there because I was following a quest line set by a very rude guy, who was a follower of the little witch woman, who is located just to the west of Caria Manor.

Can someone give me a pointer on where to go there, or can I just sack that whole place off and go elsewhere?

I’ve kinda forgotten where I was on the critical path, but:

I’d found a lift that needed keys of some description, which I didn’t have. I think there was a warp point on the north-facing bridge at the foot of Raya Lucaria, which got me over the big fuck-off hole in the middle of it. That way?

Have you been to the bottom right of the map in Caelid?

  7. I restarted this today after putting it away for a while after getting stuck on the fire giant.

I decided the worst thing to do was to get right back into that fight so I'm going around the world doing other stuff and it's great fun. I killed the

    Spoiler

Giant Snake God thing in the manor

and am now using the weapon you get from him. It's great, very powerful and has builtin free healing! I'll have to check out the rest of the manor because I did the quests and got access to the boss that way, but I think there's a whole dungeon there too.

After that I spent all night in the sewers underneath the capital. Not a very pleasant place but I think I cleared it all out.

I think tomorrow I will go back and try the fire giant again...

Yes and no. You do lose a bit of the blank-canvas-ness of the original titles, only for it to replaced by Shinchan's puns and butt-only alien behavior. Not without its charms though! Definitely worth a look if you want to have an easily accessible option while you wait for the fan-translation to drop. Its summery cicada vibe is on point.

I bought it and am enjoying it! I'll post some impressions in the dedicated thread when I'm a bit further in.

This review has filled me with a need to play Boku no Natsuyasumi. However options seem to be limited. Would the new Shin Chan licensed game be a good purchase? Does it have the same structure and atmosphere as the older games?

I bought it so I can answer my own question: yes it's lovely and really a Boku no Natsuyasumi game. It even has tank controls!

I gotta say I would've preferred a  normal protagonist though, Shin Chan makes annoying jokes and I really don't like his voice. But whatever, I'm enjoying my summer holiday!

  10. I watched Speak no Evil. Man that was tense and harrowing. Being Dutch also gives it another dimension, some of the couple's behaviour was familiar, I actually know people with similar character traits. It's recognizable but without becoming a caricature. Great job by the actors.

One thing I didn't really buy was

    Spoiler

the ending. I get what they were going for but not enough had happened for them to just give up like that.

Other than that it was amazing and a must for horror fans. It will stay with me for a long time. 5/5.
