  1. The Fighter I love a good boxing movie. Bale and Walhberg come across well and the matches are pretty good though the punches look off sometimes like they are lacking power or too slow. Small quibble though, definitely worth a watch. 4/5
  2. I have to admit I am not a fan of remakes and don't normally watch them if I have seen the original. I did enjoy Ocean's Eleven though and will watch the sequels at some point soon. I don't want to derail the thread chatting about Hollywood's endless reboots/remakes.
  3. Ocean's Eleven 2002 Stellar cast list. Clooney and Pitt just ooze charisma. Damon has some good moments. Julia Roberts completely wasted. Good film, so was the original, does it do enough to justify a remake? 3/5.
  4. The 36th Chamber of Shaolin 1970s martial arts flick, complete with dubbing, comedy kick/punch sound effects and some of the most unconvincing blood ever. Most of the film is a training montage in each of the chambers minus a stirring rock track before the climatic battle. 2/5
  5. Mrs Lowry & Son Not my usual sort of film trying something different. Redgrave and Spall are both excellent, poor old Lowry really put up with alot of crap from his mum. 3/5
  6. John Wick 3. Pretty much as expected, Reeves and Berry are both acrobatic killing machines and the set pieces are as spectacular as ever. I got fatigued by the sheer amount of nameless goons mowed down by the end. 3/5
  7. Thought it was pretty good. Nice and twisty/turny. Kept me guessing.
  8. Star Wars 4/5 The original one, still great.
  9. That's my biggest grumble about this game. And it just gets easier as you gain xp so quickly you out level the planets you quest on.
  10. Watched the first 3 so far. It's so dark I feel guilty laughing. Really like it.
  11. A new hardcover of all the Earthsea stories and some other bits&bobs has just been released. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Books-Earthsea-Complete-Illustrated/dp/1473223547
  12. Got to recommend "The Fifth Season" by N K Jemisin. Very original ideas, real breath of fresh air.
  13. Just finished Ready Player One. Not sure if I enjoyed it or if it was the biggest load of 80s fan boy nonsense ever. Probably the latter.
  14. Think there are 6 books set in Earthsea these days. I remember reading of a hardcover omnibus of them all coming out in the next year or so.
  15. The Earth sea trilogy (back when it was one) was one of my first fantasy reads. Sparrowhawk's journeys still stay with me till this day.
