  1. Card sales at AVForums have died a complete death. You still see the odd one getting listed but few are paying the inflated prices now. I'll probably see out the year with my 2070 Super. I'd be interested in a 3070 / 3080 but there's nothing out there I can't currently run well enough.
  2. I got a PS5 in March and was initially impressed with it on my LG OLED. Then I treated my PC to a 144hz ultrawide which killed off any enthusiasm I had for the PS5.
  3. Not a bad watch this. Being compared to Moon is a bit odd but nonetheless it’s fairly solid. I’m starting to appreciate films more these days with tighter, leaner running times.
  4. You need to buy Quake 2 to access all the levels in Quake 2 RTX. Standard Quake 2 RTX is a free download that has a small portion of the full game.
  5. Valorant has quite the ‘community’ but even that pales in comparison to Apex Legends. I think a lot of the younger gamers are still on Fortnite so the current Apex players are more mature but they take everything very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very seriously.
  6. I’ve been thinking about this for a while and at 45 I’ve dabbled in pretty much everything there is. From CS to Unreal Tournament to multiple Battlefields to PUBG to Halo to Overwatch to Q3A to Valorant to COD to Tarkov to L4D to Titanfall to Rainbow Six Siege to Destiny. You name it, I’ve played it. But, by far and away, Apex Legends is the most toxic first person shooter I’ve ever played. A lot of the people that play it are simply incomprehensible dickheads. I’ve never saw so many congregated in one game before (although admittedly I’ve never got into League of Legends). I’ve a few 100 hours at the very least on Apex but playing it these days is just an exercise in abject misery.
  7. In an earlier GDNZ season there’s a Tuscan Villa style house that was budgeted at $2.5 mil and came in at over $5 mil, breaking one of the owners mental health in the process. To top it off him and his wife couldn’t move into it in the end and had to rent it out. It’s shown again in the last episode of season 5. There’s definitely more stuff that ends up incomplete in Grand Designs from the other side of the world. They certainly seem to have a penchant for building stuff on top off or on the side of hills out there.
  8. I’ve watched as much of Grand Designs New Zealand as I could get hold of over the last few weeks and it is indeed spectacular in both builds and scenery. It’s much more interesting than the UK version (which I do love). Chris Moller is a really good presenter as well. I presume Land Rover have some sort of deal in place as the footage of him driving somewhere always feels like an advert for their cars.

    Apple TV +

I’m about half way through Physical and it’s excellent. I’ve no idea why some of this Apple TV + material doesn’t get better reviews. Must be some sort of anti Apple agenda as they’ve really nailed some of these shows.

    Old Age Gamers

Good article that. I don't know what to think anymore though. I've had success in things like Returnal and Demon's Souls in recent times (I've played a lot of From stuff though to be fair) but gave up on Miles Morales at about the half way point as I just never got to grips with what I found was a counter intuitive control system. I've found PC shooters a real struggle over the last few years, Apex Legends especially seems to have an incredibly high skill requirement to really make your mark. Console equivalents much less so although this might just be down to all the top tier players being on PC. I'm 45 next week.
  11. Try Conquest and play as a medic. You’ll be able to contribute a lot playing that role. Stick with your squad at all times (unless they are all snipers). If that’s the case just simply change squad.
  12. Mesmerising film. The acting and sound design are absolutely stellar.
  13. My vote went to ‘I didn’t enjoy’ which isn’t really true. There are a few games that look good to me but these are spread out over all the conferences. I’m not seeing a huge amount of innovation out there but nonetheless I’d imagine Elden Ring, Battlefield 2042 and BOTW2 should be pretty damn spectacular.
  14. There’s definitely something to be said for improving at the game. All those attempts at Phrike with a carbine, astronaut and large vial came to nothing. Went in only with a sidearm, a bit more integrity than usual and a 10% boost to damage. Crushed him while taking a lot less damage than usual. It was one of those zen moments that made no sense in hindsight.
  15. That was quite underwhelming. Tough times for developers for sure but that was all a bit uninspired.
  16. Fair point although the atmosphere in Returnal is very much ‘Alien’ at times.
  17. I’ve played this game all damn day. I’ve a mad urge now though to watch Prometheus.
  18. I’ve nothing bad to say about previous Housemarque games but this is some leap from past releases to what they’ve come up with in regard to Returnal. It’s a top tier game and reminds of the impact Dark Souls made back in the day. It’s got a challenging difficulty level but it’s really hard to not go straight back in once you inevitably get smashed in one of the biomes.

    The Spurs Thread

Conte and Levy comes across as a terrible combination. It would be hard to imagine a less compatible pairing.
  20. I started Returnal last night and it’s a bit of a stunner. Certainly feels like a sci-fi take on a From Software game. Ever since I got a PS5 I’ve never got over how good the DualSense controller is. It’s light years ahead of anything else on the market.
  21. This is a terrible film with absolutely no redeeming features. Netflix is putting far too much money into complete crap these days.
  22. Looks like a really large futuristic router. I mocked the look of the thing before it was launched but I quite like it now. The Series X is far too bland.
  23. Demons Souls on PS5 is amazing graphically. The HDR is stunning and makes everything pop unbelievably well.
  24. I really like the look of Returnal and I’d be confident of getting a fair few hours of entertainment out of it. I’m still paying neither the £70 asking price or the £60ish it can be got for using PSN credit. It’s not often I vote with my wallet but I’ve stuck to it so far. I’m far too used to PC gaming and the joys of CDKeys.
  25. Loved it. The two leads are outstanding. Badly needs a second season.
