He's an incredible talent. So composed and intelligent for his age. You'd never believe he was only 20, watching him play. His ability to receive the ball between the lines and turn quickly is a vital outlet, as Rev mentions. He's deceptively powerful too, very strong on the ball. He wins the majority of 50-50's he goes in to. It's a shame for the England national team, that nobody had the sense to try and convince him to stay with England. I appreciate with the reputation his Uncle has in Nigeria, the family pull was always going to be difficult to ignore, but it was worth a shot.

Sky Sports are saying 3 weeks. Big relief, as purely from a numbers POV, we'd have been struggling if he was out for an extended period.
  3. Watched this a few weeks ago, and then again at the weekend. It's fantastic, and just as funny second time around, when you pick up a few more of the smaller jokes. Gosling is brilliant in this. "Fucking Chett".
  4. Admittedly I haven't watched the video, but didn't he essentially say for £400k, he'd fly to Singapore and Hong Kong and tell these guys how to get around FA rules on bringing in third-party owned players?
  5. Allardyce under investigation from the FA. What an idiot.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/sep/21/arsene-wenger-arsenal-1966-premier-league-rivals-where-are-they-now Good article on Wenger, breaking down his 20 years in charge, in to different phases. Briefly looking back on his time overall, the things that stand out most for me, are that he undoubtedly should have won more league titles (five at least) and that I think time will be much kinder to him over the period of our move to the Emirates and keeping us in the CL each season. It was a frustrating period at the time, coming from the invincibles and how amazing that was, but to achieve what he did with the limited finances at the time (and some of the dross we had in the squad), was a remarkable achievement under the circumstances.
  7. Just picked this up on Xbox, as I enjoyed the demo and Argos were doing it for a decent price. So as someone who hasn't played MyClub before (only Master League on the poor PC version over the last few years) are there some basics I should know/rookie errors to avoid?
  8. It's scary the way he stalks his opponents down in to the corner and then unloads bombs on them. His body shots make you wince. Kell never really stood a chance, but he can hold his head high. His corner throwing the towel in was absolutely the right thing to do. As has been said elsewhere, this was a no-lose fight for him, so hopefully he can go on to another big fight from this.

He has two young children, so the prospect of moving abroad was always unlikely. As soon as that (uninspiring) list of interested teams came out, Palace seemed the safest bet, as I'm sure Pardew would be able to convince Jack to go there. To to be honest, if he can go there and have a full season without injuries, I'd be happy for him. He was clearly going to be far down the pecking order here. Realistically, he would only have gotten any serious game-time if others got injured.

Looking at his career history, he's a journeyman from the looks of things. Would be a strange signing, as you'd assume he'd be nothing more than a squad player, which isn't really what we need. We have plenty of those in the forward areas. Don't see the point in adding another, unless they're genuinely class.

It's not just us as fans who will be looking at our inaction over the Summer. If you're Ozil and Sanchez, you wouldn't exactly be chomping at the bit to sign a new deal would you? While you're watching your rivals drop £50m+ on world class players, and bringing in world class managers.
  12. It still boggles my mind that WB let somebody plan out/direct this universe, who has zero fucking clue about who these characters are at a fundamental level.

I actually think it's 50/50 (at best) whether we sign anybody. Wenger will probably be thinking that we have Koscielny coming back, and then Chambers/Holding/Debuchy can do a job at CB until Gabriel is back (assuming he really is out for 6-8 weeks). We might be more likely to sign a forward, but again, Wenger might think that between Sanchez, Giroud, Theo, Ox, Campbell, Iwobi (and Akpom if he stays), that we are sufficiently stacked in that position. It's also likely that Jack and Ramsey will end up shunted out wide too. So if you're Wenger, do you rush out and spend 30m on somebody you're not massively keen on signing, just to appease the fans? I doubt it.

But at the same time, Wenger was questioned continually about Mahrez and never explicitly said we weren't interested or wouldn't bid (not that I thought we'd ever seriously try for him). Normally if there's zero truth in a big rumour, Wenger will shoot it down.

If we rock up to Leicester on August 31st at 10pm 'enquiring' about Mahrez, I fully expect them to tell us to do one. As Fox alluded to above, a lot of fans (myself included) just feel apathetic to everything right now. There's only so much energy you can waste, being angry at the same mistakes and issues we've had, many of which go back several years.
  16. I actually think having the fight at 170 makes sense. From Conor's POV, some might call it stupid, but I understand where he's coming from. If they fought at 155 and Conor won, then people would constantly be needling and making excuses, even though they'd be ridiculous to do so. You guys are right about Conor and 145 as well. That's over for him. He has no interest in an Aldo rematch/Edgar fight, and killing himself in the process. It's a must-win fight for Conor basically. If he wins by KO, I think he can get back that 'untouchable' aura and go on to fight at 155, but if he loses, he'll never be able to recover the same level of hype.
  17. This makes Snyder's murderman version of Batman even more ridiculous. You've got Batman mowing down random henchman in the Batmobile, yet when Robin is killed by the Joker, the worst Batman can do is knock his teeth out? I try not to think too much about how little any of this universe makes sense, because the slightest breeze sends it all falling down like a house of cards.
  18. I think it depends how Nate approaches this fight. He'd cut through Conor on the floor, just like the first fight. Will he want to stand up and try and show Conor he can outbox him again? Diaz brothers don't go down, but you just never know. If anyone can land a clean shot to drop him, Conor can.
  19. I don't think even Geoff Johns can save the DC cinematic universe if that's what he's got to work with....

It's just all so uninspiring isn't it. There's very little for our fans to get excited about, while our main rivals are strengthening their squads with quality players.

I read on SSN the other day that his release clause is £42m, so maybe that's where the confusion is. Valencia were holding out for around £25m, which we didn't fancy paying.

Any reason the fee was so low? Even for a League One player, with the English premium, I'd expect to pay £2m just to acquire one of his limbs.
  23. I can overlook the grill, the pimp cane, the big, shiny purple jacket and the silly 'hahahahaha' tattoos, but I can't forgive 'damaged'.

But Henry offered to coach for free and split his salary among the other coaches, so it was clearly a case of Wenger wanting him to pack in the Sky job. Who would in his situation? I'm sure clubs will be lining up for his knowledge and experience, whilst allowing him to carry on his media career. Wenger has always been precious about ex-players criticising anything to do with the club. I thought Adams had been black-listed for that very reason. It doesn't massively bother me that he's leaving, as I doubt he's a great coach, but it'd be nice not to sour another relationship with a club legend.
