  1. yeah as mentioned I think 40% is okay when you consider how much effort it takes to arrange these things normally. if we were to do it as a LS we'd need to do it with a proper party of 6 level 75s (and would need to splash out on potions, food, ethers etc) as we don't have that many black mages, or we could do it with randoms but there's huge risks involved and no one can ever agree whether you should sell everything and split, or do your orb your loot. plus I don't think anyone uses paladin tanks for these things anyway
  2. I used the service here http://kaboomgaruda.proboards34.com/index.cgi I was fairly unlucky with my drops (only made about 300k and the person after me apparently made 7 mil ) but the service itself is great. and it's certainly better than letting your seals collect dust in your mog house. I also garden on and off (missed this month due to the july update and I have a short holiday coming up) and I find it's the best way to make money for me. it's also perfect for people who have access to FFXI every day, but don't have as much time to play. Crafting can also be great, but I'm still working out how to make the most of it, and I haven't quite figured out how to get a steady income from it yet. both of these methods require some capital to start you off but you almost certainly come out with nice profits.
  3. I much prefer In the nightside eclipse over Anthems, but its a pretty close call. it was the first black metal album I ever heard so that's probably why. I don't really like Emperors newer stuff, for me, it just doesn't have the charm and mystery that the first 3 have (Emperor/Wrath of the tyrant, In the nightside eclipse and Anthems). Sirius is a good band that sounds like a mixture Arcturus, Limbonic Art and Emperor. their last album was produced by Samoth in his studio I think (they split up a while back though). not too original but still a great band. Weakling are another awesome band I can recommend. the only thing that might let the album down are the Varg Vikernes-esque vocals but if you don't mind that sort of thing (I like them but I know some people think bad vocals can ruin an album) then its well worth a listen.
  4. well the 2 aren't really comparable. what you see in the video is 1 out of 3 bosses that when defeated, grants you access to a whole new area in the game (if that makes sense). it's not the greatest example of FFXIs party dynamics, as the fight is capped at level 30, and many of the jobs in FFXI don't get their redeeming features until level 40+, in some cases a lot higher. but I still thought it was a pretty good video. FFXI has epic fights and battles (such as Dynamis Lord who requires 60+ level 75 people to even have a chance at winning, and is still undefeated on some servers), but the catch is you don't really get to do all that stuff until you're level 70+, which takes months to do.
  5. hey Noniro! the address is http://rllmuklinkshell.bounceme.net/ we have a new linkshell now (back with the name AlbionJr), with a new furry overlord, Rayah.
  6. yeah I'm in a similar situation. I finally got round on tuesday night to planting the tree saplings I grew (from farmed Tree cuttings) months ago. I last checked them at 1:30am on wednesday morning I haven't been able to get on since. usually these update problems don't bother me but now I'm annoyed as I will probably lose something which I spent quite a lot of time farming for.
  7. I should think it's something like 10% of every level, max. so I'd have 3.2k less exp to get to reach level 65. this seems fair, and it's quite a lot of exp reduced overall. loads of people on the Allakhazam main forum are thinking everyone will go from 51-75 in a week, but I honestly don't think we'll see too much difference. SE (probably) know what they're doing. if they reduce it by too much they will upset a lot of people, so I think they'll reduce it just enough to make the grind that little bit easier.
  8. wait, what is PDT? I was thinking PST
  9. Noon - 4pm our time, I think.
  10. I wouldnt pay too much attention to the level recommendations on Alla. level 45 is way too low for 5-1 (especially for the tank), and the tank will want to be at least 57 for the Shadow lord fight (I did it at 58 I think). one thing about playing a tank class is we need to be as high as possible. other jobs (mainly mages it seems) can have rank 10, sky access, invites to dynamis once they reach 65+, but for tanks we need to be 70+ before we have all that. it's a little frustrating but thats just the way it works I guess!
  11. will you ever make a return to FFXI Bojangle?

    Wow Vs Ffxi

well, many of the LS have level 50+ jobs now, and there's 7 or 8 (possibly more) people with level 60+ jobs. I agree, our LS just didn't have enough high level people to make AF easy a few months ago, but it's different now. the last few coffer parties have been mainly LS people with maybe one or two pickups who also need a key. For Sarish's Castle Zvhal coffer key it was just people from this LS, and we got a key for Rayah too, all in about 2 hours. the rings are brilliant, thank you again. sometimes people say "nice rings" and I feel a little embarrassed, and they always call me lucky when I tell them they were given to me by a friend who left :/ by the way, only a couple of us have gone further with the Promothia missions so far, and most of the linkshell is still on Zilart mission 4 so you haven't missed out on too much there. the Promyvions themselves aren't that big a deal now. we have about a billion level 30+ rangers in the LS now so that makes things even easier
  13. yeah this months fees have been billed so it'll be that. phoning your bank should do it. Emailing SE/POL will probably be useless.
  14. Summoner looks like it was intended to be a job for people who already have high level jobs. the level 20 Battles are a fairly recent thing as far as I know, and you'll notice most Summoners are fairly high ranks. I've left my Summoner at level 11 for the time being, it will be the next job I take to level 50+ after I've hit 70+ with Paladin.
  15. yeah this is the thread that made me buy the game in the first place. I still haven't seen some of the zones in this thread, such as Ifrit's Cauldron. I should go there some time, it looks great!
  16. Will do! I can do you a copy if you want. I'd still like to hear your demo if you have any copies left. have you heard of Mutiilation? he has a new one out. I don't know where to get it but I want it. his/their other albums are amazing. I have his 2 previous albums on CD and lots of stuff on mp3. Soulseek never works for me anymore (searches bring up nothing most of the time). I don't know if it's just something at my end but let me know if you want to hear some stuff you havent heard, and we can sort it out over MSN (haven't been on that in months!) or Gmail, or I can send you a cdr even.
  17. I never got in to Taake, I thought 'Nattestid Ser Porten Vid' was pretty bland... which ones do you recommend? I just ordered Deathspell Omegas latest one 'Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice' which is supposed to be one of the best albums of 2004. I also ordered Velvet Cacoon - 'Genevieve' which has been very hyped, probably the most hyped band/album of 2004. they have an ambient approach to black metal apparently, simliar to that of Burzums 'Filofosem' so I'm looking forward to hearing it!
  18. BLACK metal the rest of Mayhem supposedly ate/drank Dead's brain and made a necklace out of bone fragments from his skull but I reckon that's mostly hype and rumours. they did use a photo of his dead body for an album cover though. probably best to link to it, not really work safe http://www.fmp666.com/Merchant2/graphics/0...mayhem_dawn.jpg anyway back to the point of this thread. I recommend Aborym, any album (although 'With no human intervention' is my favourite). it's not like normal black metal, it has a lot of industrial and techno influences. if you find you like Aborym, you should try Mysticum who are a similar band but they are more industrial than techno (but still very much black metal).
  19. Same. well I'm not at work, but I won't be on until 8ish. I had a fairly eventful day yesterday. my main aim was to get NIN from 10 to 15 in one go. but then I remembered it was Valkurm logged on at 4pm and went straight to Valkurm as a level 10 NIN. got a party straight away. logged off at 6pm as a level 9 NIN. Logged on at 8pm as a level 9 NIN, got a party straight away, walked away from Valkurm at 11pm as a level 10 NIN with the exact same exp tnl as I did at 4pm. so I went to Jueno to try and get a party to get my Castle Zaahl (sp?) coffer key for my paladin and my friend asked me for help with dark spark. well we got there and the twit hadn't even activated the quest properly so we went back to Jueno so he could do it. then the level 75 DRK that was helping said we were going to fight Ose. so we went to the Labyrinth of Onzozo and with help from a level 70 WAR/NIN and 2 white mages we killed it (no drop :/). I flashed it once so the DRK/NIN could recast Utsusemi and that got me hate, and the damn thing hit me for over 200 dmg on just a normal hit, not even a critical. So I decided I'd just sit back and watch. the fight lasted about 5 minutes (the setup was 75drk/nin, 70war/nin, 75whm/blm, 65whm/blm, 58drk/war and me). it took forever for people to get TP, but eventually the 75drk used Spiral Hell which is an awesome Weapon skill. it did over 1000 damage, I think at only 100% tp, although it might have been 300% as it was right at the end of the fight when he did it. anyway after that we went back to fight dark spark. whilst pressing the torch, someone (not me this time!) ran into the walls (which pops about 6 or 7 Demon knights). it was insane, we didn't even bother to escape out, and we all almost died it was so much fun. then the WAR/NIN did it again on purpose, it was hilarious, but I dont think the WHMs were impressed as they had to use Benediction.
  20. my whm is 21 I think, almost 22. I need to go to bed earlyish tomorrow (about 12) so levelling whm is probably a good idea, as my pld needs longer sessions.
  21. I'm not sure how long I'll stay. it depends on whether or not the game is still playable really. some of the stuff in WoW does look nice, but I don't like the look of the cartoony graphics and models. and there's so much I'll miss from FFXI like Tarus panicking, working hard with people you've never met to get a exp chain #5, or defeating a horribly difficult mob/NM with well timed 2hrs and job abilities, etc. I'll miss all the awesome AF armour (does WoW have anything like that?), Kite shields (the coolest things ever), Chocobos, Airships, hot Elvaan women, the rain in La theine, Xarcabard, Lower Jeuno auction house, etc. and there's still so much I haven't seen. I don't even have a craft past 20! I'll even miss Valkurm dunes and the chaos that goes on there. speaking of which, anyone got a level 10-12 job that they want to take through Valkurm? My NIN is 10 (9, actually, I just leveled down there in the worst party ever) and I need to take it to 15. http://home.comcast.net/~dreadnaughts/valk.jpg
  22. Yep, apparently RDM/NIN is supposed to be the best soloable job (apart from BST I guess) ever. DRG/WHM is supposed to be great too. I don't think you can exp efficiently, but I've heard of RDMs that have soloed or duo'd the easyish HMNs, and there's that DRG that soloed the Sea Horror.. I wouldn't mind levelling RDM up some time myself. after 41 it's probably the job that gets the most invites too!
  23. yeah! and I actually had almost as much MP as a Taru SMN/WHM in Valkurm a while back. granted I had eaten some +40mp food, but still. My cures were doing 32hps and his were doing 28ish. Also, if for some reason I grab hate from the tank, us Elvaans can take like 4+ hits whilst a Taru would die in about 2 hits. so there.
  24. hmmm, my WHM is 20, I wasnt planning on taking it any further but a break from PLD is rather needed. if there's still a slot at 8pm - 8:30pm I'll join if thats ok. anyone got any Astral rings they can lend me.
  25. the city you start in is up to you but you get a Ring if you start in your correct nations city. Elvaan come from San d'Oria, Hume and Galka from Bastok, and Tarutaru and Mithra are from Windurst. whilst any race can do any job, there are races that are better at certain jobs than other races. for example Tarutaru have the easiest time at being black mages (high MP and INT), Elvaan and Galka have the easiest time with tanking jobs like Warrior and Paladin because of their high HP, STR and VIT, Mithra have the easiest time at being Thiefs and Rangers (high AGI and DEX) and Hume are the all rounders and can do any job fairly easily. Saying that, player skill and (expensive ) equipment is the most important thing, and any race can do any job in the long run.
