  1. That new animal crossing. Felt like endless busywork.

I absolutely loathed Outer Wilds when I first picked it up. It doesn’t make much sense, is a bit ugly, and is quite mysterious and bewildering. Luckily I dove back in again a few months later and kept at it. Best game.

Also, can’t believe the amount of BOTW slander here.

That's what it was like on the N64 as far as controls go. The point was that thanks to the resistance on the N64 control stick you could keep it tilted in a very gradual way. If you went and pushed it too far then the cars would skid out. It made you feel like you were right on the edge. Go too far and you paid the price. Of course that doesn't feel too great on controllers with no resistence to movement.

The way to over come this is with quick "double pumping" of the accelerator. Tapping it repeatidly while going round corners can keep you speed up and helps prevent skidding.

    Yes, I know.

It feels like shit on a pro controller, and the wireless n64 controllers are all sold out 🥲.

They could probably offer some kind of stick threshold remapping.

The frame rate and stutter is a much more pressing issue though.

  3. So I finally got around to trying F Zero X, which I was really excited for….but it runs like shit? Is it just me? Any time other racers are on screen the frame rate tanks, and every so often it just randomly hiccups up and down over and over. It ran a solid 60 on n64 so this feels really jarring.

Also, very twitchy controls! It was quite a challenge to not oversteer. I was having to very very very lightly nudge the stick the whole time I played.

Keep moving but don't run around pointlessly. Don't run around corners especially.

Aim anywhere on the body with your assault rifle to pop their shield. When their shield is down, use your pistol for headshots.

No need to burst fire the assault rifle, just keep your trigger down and aim. As soon as their shield is done you're already getting your pistol out. Very precise timing.

Alien weapons do more damage to shields, human weapons do more damage to flesh.

Wouldn't even bother with grenades until you can get the Halo dance down in one-on-one firefights. Just remember shield pop then headshots. Melee if you're feeling bold.

I wouldn't get distracted by power weapons either. Get the basics down. Spend the entire night practising the shield pop/headshot combo. You'll get there.

Great advice, actually really helped! I’m doing kind of well now?!?
