  1. At short notice or in three weeks, room for one more (maybe)? I'm in the same camp as Meers with PC hardware (several generations older CPU; similar, albeit desktop GPU and a lower res) with added physical restrictions. But I managed to turn a lap for the first time in a long time... a long time after I paid a rare visit to Discussion and noticed this thread and the race and wheel ones the other day! I'm trying to remember and find ready-made control alternatives or think up adaptations with wheels and hand controls (which will need a new/good used wheel... if I can turn it somehow) but might have something good enough1 for a possible gentleman racer bump start like this (1not a wheel! ). There's mountains of luck needed at the minimum (hence the maybe regardless of when or how short or long an event) but if there might be a spot to bother my old mate @Meers sometimes... or just once , I'll try to follow things here and see if it's possible at the time. I've not run on-line with a PC for decades and don't have any social/comms accounts, so don't know where to start or how much of a toll it takes on the already busy CPU if there's more than Steam and the game to run at once. I use headphones but can switch them around for a headset if there's chat. I've a couple of RLLMUK pages open in an attempt to inform myself overall and form some control/wheel ideas, though direct guidance or redirection to posts or threads for ACC or anything relevant will be welcome! There is every chance of no shows - this might even prove impossible - but if I don't ask about a potential spot on the grid first...!
  2. Not that it matters in the grand scheme but that quoted text isn't from Jeff. As the gilesgoat tag suggests and the style of writing backs up, it's from his partner, Giles. In addition to the wording, anyone that's seen his posts on YakYak will quickly recognise the way quotation marks reflect how Giles puts emphasis in his forum posts. I'm glad to see things confirmed anyway. I had no idea what stage Tempest 4000 had reached on any platform and had a 'Wait a minute...' moment when I watched the video last night. It seemed an odd appearance after all of the linking to early Atari consoles and games via older imagery and I was surprised despite Jeff's history up to the Jaguar. Other than hoping this one might go well as it'd be nice to discover positive associations to change the ongoing direction with the Speccy and C64, I had no feelings whatsoever until certain inserts in their video (Tempest 4000 and using AMD footage to, at best, potentially suggest something is in production). Then I saw the older linked 'hands on' video and the contained black plastic and strip-of-wood box with sockets that... had lights in it! Just lights. Though its scheduled release is far away, no nearby PC or even a laptop to demonstrate the front end that they seem to show in their launch video? I'm not a collector; I just like games. I won't run for the 'Buy' button every time something with a familiar name is released and whether or not this or any other retro-themed package arrives will make no difference to me. I follow things like this a bit out of slight interest and thinking it'd be nice to see awareness, knowledge and interest grow across different age groups but beyond questions on the hardware side, those video inserts gave me pause for thought. If it wouldn't be asking the impossible in these ever-connected times, I'd actually have some happiness if one of these 'retro' computers or even just a wide-ranging collection of games could be released in such a way that it mainly stoked good memories and produced more positive feelings for newcomers than we've seen of late. Some will never be pleased but it'd be nice to see one of these systems (and/or a games bundle, even one that included different consoles/computers!) done really well and reaching shelves, discs or digital stores without the clouds and fog of the attempts we've seen so far. From the Indiegogo campaign page: "Tempest 4000 will be there..." In the context of Giles' comments, wow.
  3. Yeah, all true — except for the first reply in the thread by @Blu3Flame, which says: I think that final Ecco sequence took me months to beat and just to make it worse, that one time I did was so easy!
  4. Surely the launch for the announcement of a series of social media posts that get the World ready for AMAZING news of a future release of the video (after it's been uploaded from a phone had the 'Hollywood touch' and been ground into small parts that ultimately show nothing everything at its finest)?! [Date to be delayed confirmed.]
  5. That's given me cheer. Thank you.
  6. Right down — up?! — to the height, you could be me, Nathan! Are the special moves anything like the Street Fighter type of combo or very simplistic? That's always given me pause for thought as I can't really do much beyond the odd button press or two. The simpler, the better really. I don't need to be good at the game and I'd be happy enough if I could still have a laugh from simple moves and proximity-based variants or specials. Anything Sensi-style would be fine with me!
  7. Do you know if the supply is okay, King? For a while, I thought my 360 wheel was broken or that its 'bodge' at feedback wasn't anything like old reviews had said. The PSU from my earlier PC wheel fixed all that despite the numbers on the third-party unit looking correct and it did a reasonable, if noisy job of suggesting what a car was doing. Just to eliminate another possibility, as odd as it may seem, I've also found USB 2.0 to be more compatible with my wheel. Depending on the game, it was iffy with a 360 pad at times too. Though it could be a quirk of my system, I'd initially used the 3.0 sockets for the wheel as they're a little closer to where I sit and it wasn't until I switched to the 2.0 ones that it behaved normally (if it was even recognised with 3.0!). The last thing I can think of at the moment may again be more applicable to my older-than-a-DFGT wheel: Logitech's Profiler. Going back to Windows 7 and up to the current 10 installation, I found that I had to use a particular revision of the software. Looking at the file I saved, it was a 64-bit 'lgs510' (which shows up as Version 5.10.127 on Profiler's About panel). If I'm correctly remembering when I ran through Logitech's download pages, I think the DFGT was included in a later file but the same principle may apply where one version just works for you. Fingers crossed!
  8. The Logitech supply for an older wheel of mine has the second set of figures on it. I don't know the output on a junk PSU that came with a similar wheel for the 360 but only the 24V/0.75A Logitech one results in feedback.
  9. That was going to be my question! I don't have a modern console and have seen no more than race footage on YouTube as a result. I've loved catching up in the thread for the pics as much as the opinions. However you've produced them, U-1, they're wonderful.
  10. Just posted that in Bargains... and then came to the thread! D'oh! Anyway, I'm in now too. I'll be back to moan at y'all if it's not up to scratch!
  11. I can't comment on how it's been with the consoles but what's frustrated me is that for the longest time during development it just worked! Though I've not bothered for months, it felt like I had to start fixing the controls again whenever returning to it following time with other sims. Even after using 'just right' settings that caused me to be positive here about CARS ahead of its release! A lot of that depended on the car too but I'd find myself floundering with the steering even desperately trying modern cars with traction control or whatever. Whether new or very old, those other games have never been so problematic and everything from GT machinery to the most fragile and sensitive Formula cars responds well via wheel or 360 controller. Or keyboard or mouse, come to think of it! It's so odd.
  12. I wish it was all of the time from everyone at the moment but I was going to ask if you had anything planned. I'll PM you. [Edit] Mods, could Lorf's post with the video be copied at least to a new thread in Discussion so that it can be seen more?
