Caramon thanks for your help in Kor... Tunnel last night. The first time I was attacked by the leeches, yogas did kill them all afterwards but I was still attacked again when I was raised the first time and tried again (and died again ). Can't for the life of me figure out why they didnt come back the third time of trying - the tension built up, you loaded yourself with magic, yogas was going to use some uber attack and............... nothing, just got my piece of coral. Damp squib or what? By the way both times I died, one leech was attacking me with two linked to it. Yogas was just hitting it with regular albeit chunkyish attacks of around 90h hp. Why didnt he hit the main leech hard enough to draw its attention away from me? Lvl 62 PLDs if they dont have voke surely have an attack that 'grabs attention'? Mind you mustn't grumble, he stayed around to get me first a raise from one guy and then went all the way back to Bastock (even though I told him you were coming) to change his SJ to lvl 30 WHM to then come back and raise me again. Maybe something was lost in translation - he gave me 4 sneak oils at the end too and I got my coral so it was worth it. Now been to Norg too and have my Ninja job. Couldnt get Samurai quest though as Im level 29 now

Er.... I think you use a keyboard. Doesn't the PS2 accept any USB keyboard anyway?

Just started my Ninja quest. Having battled through Quifm (levels 19 to 24), Yuhtunga and Yhoator Jungles (levels 25 to 30) I was desperately keen to get Ninja and start levelling from 1 again and still am but.......................... I now want to dash through Ninja to 20 so that I can carry on levelling my thief , especially with some extra job traits and abilities to play with and Mercenary's armour up for grabs. No matter where you get to in this game you're always driven by something else just out of reach

By the way what does the 'f' button do on the keyboard in relation to targetting? At work at the minute so can't find out by playing the game. I have the PC game but use a PS2 controller and find that it works ectremely well, especially with some basic macros too like '/check <t>' and others linked to key job abilities or weapon skills. Tracking through available targets on the PS2 pad couldn't be easier just using the D pad.

This does rather fuck up use of sneak attack too . I fire up sneak as the mob is pulled so that my second sneak is ready much sooner - with long pulls I can almost sneak attack twice back to back. But with no main tank and double voking I have to prat about delaying sneak as the mobs goes from one voker to another! Sneak inevitably misses or times out or I just about get in in. All adds to the 'fun' though. To be fair Valkurm will have a lot of less experienced partiers perhaps going into full parties for the very first time. Give them a break and just try and help them.

Yeah but my throwing skill is a measly 1 at the minute! Archery is 36 or so so more effective. Just levelled at 30 by the way amd warped out of the jungle. Going to head for Bastock now and look into getting the Ninja quest going.

Managed to stay in Yhoator and get a guy coming out to resupply me with 99 arrows. Really handy as pulling without arrows is darn risky because of the lurking goblins - the extra range makes all the difference. I was down to my lasat arrow when he arrived and now have enough to get level 30 (99 x 200 exp = more than the 6000 exp needed). Have to say that having now been pulling most of the time for parties since I dunno level 17 or 18, I am starting to look down on non-pullers They won't go anywhere without sneak/invis and don't like walking round aggressive mobs at all even when they're facing the other way. If they're not doing that then they're doing the complete opposite and blundering into mobs without looking . Flee gives me a massive safety net I know but remember thieves have it much tougher on the whole apart from being able to collect gil that is, oh and get more drops and not forgetting sneak attack and fantastic evasion. But other than that its much harder...

Elorian thats a good idea but I want to get to 30 first because firstly I don't think I'll be able to find my way back here and secondly I've sort of vowed to myself to get 30 before I go anywhere else 800 short of 29 at the mo. Personally though I really would like to party in the downs - those sabre tooths look tough.

Just had my first alliance - we amalgamated two crap parties with little healing support in Yhoator so that we could chain Mandragora (albeit at about 100 exp raher than 200) with virtually no down time. Worked a dream for about 2000 exp but like all good ideas, we began to feel awsome and also wanted more exp per kill so we went for a lizard - with 11 of us in the alliance. What a debacle - thankfully with flee I got to the zone but only one other survived with me with 9 dead scattered along the jungle trail to the zone. Walked back in and it was like the scene after the final battle in 'Platoon'. Absolutely stunning though especially as I survived

That you're a newb - it drops off at level 5 but I think you can switch it off too. Do you need a world pass or are you stayiong on the world you're on now?

    FFXI

No it doesn't stop you getting other items. Keep your signet and renew it as often as you can. Get on Geruda server too if you're not on already and we'll get you on the linkshell - useful for in game help advice and partying. If you need a world pass someone on the linkshell will get you one - if you are just started it won't be too much of a chore to restart on the right game world. Don't worry about the quests and missions - just trake it nice and easy and get used to where you are and what's what for a while.
  13. I feel the same about Halo 2 - mind you I can't play it until it comes out on the PC! Having said that I am not losing sleep over the realease of Half Life 2 either although I will buy it. Not made my mind up about Doom 3. The next big PC game that I'm looking forward to the most is probably Rome Total War (along with the FFXI expansion pack). On the PS2 its probably FFXII (which could be 2 years away ) and on the GC Metroid Prime 2 and the next Zelda.

Noniro I'd otherwise help you get the keys but now I'm in Yhoator I'm not moving anywhere until lvl 30. I know exactly the orcs that drop at Ghelsba though - the sarjeant and the one standing next to him at the very top of Ghelsba Fort in the tent right beside the zone to the Yughott Grotto handily enough. They do link so be a bit careful. Other orcs drop the key in the grotto too apparently. Can't remember exactly where I got the key in palborough.
  15. That's the beauty of forums though - they don't necessarily agree with you! I've been 'disagreed with' loads of times for: 1. Loving my gamecube 2. Liking Zelda TWW 3. Thinking the control set up for Metroid Prime is perfect 4. Not liking snuff kill, violence for the sake of it games 5. Finding F-Zero too fucking hard and Viewtiful Joe stupidly the same 6. Thinking Timesplitters 2 a pile of cack 7. Getting bored with Splinter Cell after 15 minutes 8. Getting bored with Prince Of Persia after 2 hours 9. Thinking GTA average 10. Thinking that KOTOR was also average Who's to say whether my views are worth more or less than anyone elses though. (Of course they are )
  16. How the heck is levelling up cheating????? Now quick saves in FPS's maybe but levelling up?

I think I'm in Yhoator to 30 now (1000 exp short of 28 at the moment) but I quite like it (having only been in one party there ever of course)! I have a scroll so warping out 'of that shithole' will be a bit easier for me. I could warp out now but then I'd have to go to Jeuno and buy a map (because I don't think I'd ever find this place without one), get arrows and another warp scroll - too much hassle. Sorry if we overlapped your camp but it would only have been down to a mob doing a walkabout. It was bloody packed though wasn't it although I guess that's par for the course. I was in a couple of parties near the Kazham zone with no WHM and they both worked brilliantly. WHM's eh, who needs em?

This fully explains exp and how its divided up when partying. Really really useful. Look here! I think I had more-or-less grasped how it worked but never with such clarity. It certainly dispelled a couple of myths: 1. Being a low level member of a party needn't cost too much exp so long as the mobs are IT to the highest level party member. Its just pro-rata'd by your current level full exp requirement over that of the highest party member. So if my exp requirement is say 5600 (to get from 27 to 28) and that of the highest party member is 5900, I get 95% of the exp given to the highest party member. Of course at lower levels the exp differences are higher but its still not too bad. 2. The real exp hit happens when you suddenly start taking on mobs that are no longer IT to the highest party member - for instance in a party of six an IT could be notionally worth 157 exp or more to you but only appear tough to the highest party member and worth 70 exp to him! You would then (using the same proportion above) get 95% of 70 exp or 66 exp! This happens alot in Kazham at my level where the only game in town is Mandragora really and imbalanced parties just don't work. In Quifm or Valkurm though where there is a wide selection of mobs available, so long as the highest party member is pulling, good exp could be got in very diverse parties. Caramon, sorry for not answering your 'tells' properly last night but I was pulling for a party in Yhoator, the place was camped to the gunwhales and then to cap it all I got DC'd. EDIT: Can anyone find a way of getting some arrows to me in Yhoator - I've only got a few left. Gunstar I don't suppose you've gone back to Kazham but will be returning? When I'm next on, if anyone is in Kazham maybe I will ask them to buy some and give them to the first choco rider coming my way! Mind you how unlikely is that?
  19. They do test skill though and are also frought with tension. Should you use a potion to heal or attack again or summon or use magic or skip a turn to let the next in line attack or use shell or reflect or defend or wait for a limit break or attack a different opponent (sorry using FF terms but its just to demonstrate the point). You get the drift and all of these decisions have to be decided in battle all adding to the tension. As for western RPGs I don't like them nearly so much. BGII was awful and KOTOR was okay in my view. Horses for courses.
  20. Its funny but I like RPGs, especially Japanese ones, largely because you can level up and overcome obstacles. I love upgrading weapons and armour and twitting around with team set ups. I like trying different strategies to beast bosses or opening up secreat areas and finding unique stuff. I like the exploration of the game world and then getting to know all of its nooks and crannies. The first time that I found out that I could inflict poison damage (or something like that) with 'tent' in a FF game (from memory only worked as a first attack) really impressed me. Criticising then a game for the exact same reasons I like it doesn't really cut any ice. Explaining the game as button pressing is also bollocks. I could say the same about any console game and even Half Life is just a mouse and button push along if you want to view it that way.

I just choco'd there folowinga guy with a map - we both got hopelessly lost though. Got there just before choco ran out! I've now had to log (left in the middle of nowhere) as my wife's cars broken down. I guess I'll stay there until 30 now mind and warp out when Im done.

Just about Kazham'd out now (although I've only gone into the jungle 500 metres tops) - all the mandys are mainly only 'tough' now whilst one in two gobs is still a killer. I guess I should get a map and choco in and explore properly. Is there a preferred spot for lvl 28 to 30 levelling? Maybe the zone between each jungle? I've been pulling most of the time too and it can get hard work and stressful - thank god for 'flee' is all I can say! Stood by the gate this morning waiting for a PT and the goblin mayhem was great to watch. Started off with this other seeker getting killed by a gob. A higher level player then took over but two other gobs came - he killed one but then two more gobs were zoned in too. Four gobs then which disappeared from sight as the player zoned. The guy previously killed gets raised only to die moments later as the gobs come out again. Then a full party ran in with two other gobs chasing with two guys dying. Almost a spectator sport. My corner was safe to all of this although it was very close. I calmly stepped over the bodies fired off 'flee' and ran round the gobs to zone. Brilliant.
