  1. That was so awful. So, so awful. From the maker of Talledega comes something worse.
  2. Why would you? Grand Prix Simulator was great fun.
  3. I don't think it needs a defence. It's an early split screen RTS variant that didn't6 have the depth needed to hold interest. Not terrible, and great presentation, but just gets a bit dull.
  4. I think @Unofficial Who means the C64 version.
  5. 4 Levels, I guess. Ghosts n Goblins did the same. Not sure what happened with Commando.
  6. It's a very good port, yes, but the base game ain't that great. The port is also lacking the power ups of the arcade as well. I'd also argue that something like Green Beret was doing a whole lot more... Vs I'm not saying it's not impressive, but the overall effect in GB is far better, IMO.
  7. It's slower, for sure, and the enemies are more aggressive so you spend a lot of time crouched, but it is an 8 bit version of the arcade. I was expecting it to be terrible, but was pleasantly surprised.
  8. Clever 3D, but would have been better as a straight ahead blaster. The world doesn't turn when you do, so it feels all wrong.
  9. The decisions that led to that being made and released make no sense in any way.
  10. Yeah, it was pretty crap. Just as an aside, I don't line these similar type of games up on purpose. I had no idea Gun Smoke and UCM were both terrible Commando clones before we played them.
  11. How do you get brown wrong on the C64? That takes a special kind of skill.
  12. It's a brilliant game, forward thinking and cleverly designed. Tip for completing it: when you get to the village, keep buying food. Your health meter only shows the first 10 bits of energy but the number goes up as high you can, so spend most of your money on food, but save some for the enemies who want a toll from you. I love Samurai Warrior, and for some reason it always slips my mind when thinking of my favourite C64 games, but it's right up there for me. It's got the same set up as The Eidolon for me. Spaces of quiet atmosphere interspersed with frantic action. It's probably why I like the Resident Evil games and Silent Hill and things like that. Peaks and troughs. I don't think at 16 I was fully aware of what I liked in video games, but looking back, it's clear where my preferences were in the games that I liked the most. Even the sports games. It's all about the build up and then some action in things like Summer Games 2. Roll forward to Halo and things like that, and I can see my pattern was established way back then.
  13. It was a fiver, so semi budget. And yes, it had more courses, bit it looked, sounded and controlled worse.
  14. That also goes for things like Black Flag and Revelations which are also listed as disk only. In short, all the Assassin's Creed 360 games work if you own them digitally or buy them on the 360.
  15. I doubt many people will be interested in this, but I fancied playing Assassin's Creed Brotherhood last night but it was not available in the store and the wiki says you need the disk. I booted up my 360 and was able to buy it on there, and it worked perfectly fine on the Series X and S, just appearing in my just of games.

  17. I'm up to the final boss and I cannot be bothered. Four fights to get through. One lapse of concentration and half your health is gone on either Genichiro or Ishin The Sword Saint. It's so unbalanced in these fights. I really like the moment to moment play in this but the bosses are just boring. This has been the tipping point for me in From believing their own Git Gud hype train. It's gone beyond enjoyable and tense into monotony and boredom. I'm glad I saw all the way to the end and maybe I will come back to it, but it's about 15 minutes an attempt and that's just too long to sustain that elevated level of play for me. This really is their weakest game since Demon Souls for me.
  18. It needed proper power ups by this point to stand out. It was ok. Great front end and presentation.
  19. Both of those were terrible, although I did like the music in the title screen for Frightmare. Just awful, full price cackola!
  20. But that's the thing. You have to be aggressive to keep the posture damage, because when bosses are at full health, any break in attack sees the posture reset very quickly. So you need to whittle their health down in order for the posture damage to remain where it is when you take a break. And that is what I meant when I said the game wants you to be aggressive as that is the only way to really keep their posture damage up. I know you can parry a lot, but the game has a very high punishment level for failure. It's the constant high level of perfection that it requires of you, and the punishments being so harsh for failure, that leads to my frustrations with the game. If my hits did a little more damage which then led to a quicker build up of posture damage, I would like it more. As it is, the time it takes with most bosses to get their health down to get the posture damage to stick is too long.
  21. My main beef with the game is the damage taken is disproportionate to the damage given. Even lesser enemies do so much to you. I just feel like I'm hitting them with a butter knife compared to a ruddy great sword.
  22. I remember it supposedly being the key to Genichiro's third phase, but I just backed him into a corner and hacked away at him, dodging when he did a jump then just hacking away again. It was not pretty.
  23. It's that lightning jump. I still have no idea how to do it properly. That dragon God boss just sort of did it automatically.
  24. Also, Enfeebled. That actually made me laugh quite a lot.
