  1. I’m really hoping this focuses on judgement day and the years thereafter, as that would be a Terminator story that hasn’t been told yet. Or, at least, not told competently. Who am I kidding? It’s going to follow the exact same, tired as fuck premise of time travel and be set in the modern day. Will be interesting to see if that’s the case, at least, because if they’re unwilling to take any risks with an anime set in this franchise then they’re unwilling to take any risks full-stop.
  2. I dipped back in to see how/if things had changed since the comedic disaster that was season 8, and while this is nowhere near as bad as that it still feels awfully bland. Having a new group attack literally days after they dispatched the whisperers felt like a parody. Yes, the explanation that Maggie brought that shit back with her is somewhat believable, but only if she really pissed off that group as it sounds like they’ve gone especially out of their way. Despite early attempts in TWD to show they weren’t bound by the comics, I think it’s been mostly a flourish here a
  3. Though it’s somewhat of an understatement to say the story has some tonal problems, it’s also not quite as 2D as you’re making out. There are a few characters, one of them the very vocal ally under sufferance Paul Rhodes, who repeatedly bring up that a highly trained unit, which by its very design operates autonomously and with access to bleeding-edge military hardware, is a really bad idea which will inevitably go south (and so it does, in the form of rogue agents who end up either organising or manipulating some of the factions into far greater threats.)
  4. Uh, what? I don’t remember anything like that from Dawn.
  5. Are you insane? Do you want the busywork of holding down both triggers to balance a load intensified by Kojima adding suitable resistance to said triggers?
  6. Even by King’s self-admitted bad endings, that one was a real wet fart, and unintentionally amusing. Felt like something an angsty teenager would write. I’d very much enjoyed the book up to that point, though. So it shouldn’t be difficult to salvage.
  7. The blood-thirsty cry of the Chooper never stopped being amusing. ‘UUUUUUU-ARRRGHHH!’
  8. The Pedro Pascal announcement has deflated a lot of my enthusiasm for this. He’s fine as an actor, but he just doesn’t feel right for the part. Hopefully he’ll surprise me, though.
  9. First episode made me chuckle a few times, and Tudyk is excellent as an awkward alien in human skin. My favourite moments were his unintended burns, such as the ones about Big Black and Mayor Snowflake. There’s obviously going to be some saccharine ‘so humans do have value!’ moments in the future, but hopefully those feel earned and won’t come to dominate.
  10. A lot of people don’t realise how easy it is to get a shotgun licence in the U.K. They really need a good reason not to give you one.
  11. The GB sub is actively censored as regards negative comments. The mods there were questioned on it once and just said they ‘like to try and maintain a positive atmosphere.’ Probably the worst place to go to get a sense of how GB fans feel in general.
  12. I think it’s probably because most long-term Star Trek fans have given up by now, and don’t want to even think about Discovery let alone keep discussing it like you masochistic weirdos.
  13. The Star Wars prequels and Jumper are the only films I’ve seen him in, so they could be misfires, but he just washed over me in both. No real sense of presence or emotional range. To be fair, all of the actors suffered from having to chew their way through some terrible dialogue in the prequels.
  14. Well, he certainly couldn’t be any worse than he was in the prequels.
  15. Why has Adam Driver been voiced by Keanu Reeves?
  16. You don’t want to fall down that rabbit hole. Trust me. While it is indeed lovely to own a selection of vintage Game & Watches, your wallet will be screaming if you like them boxed and still in decent nick. I’ve resigned myself to probably never completing my modest collection.
  17. Their odd reluctance to say whether PSVR games will be in any way enhanced on PS5 is starting to grate, though. Even just a statement like ‘this is something we’re still finalising the details of,’ would reassure me.
  18. Yeah, World Beyond is utter cookie cutter banality. Right from the off it bends itself in loops by trying to explain that the stupidity of the kids is actually due to the stupidity of the teachers of this (successful) community. This is a world in which zombies are a perpetual threat, so how are the young prepared to face this menace? Oh, they’re given a spoken presentation, with a few diagrams, on how to kill a walker and that you’re probably best off running away. Just...fucking what? The worst possible way to get those kids to take a threat seriously is by making it theoretical. They should
  19. It is a bit difficult to tell. His choice of film roles were kind of all over the place even in his heyday.
  20. Yeah, I guess. It just seemed very throwaway for something that I thought would define that character for a bit.
  21. I think they’re being faithful to what they know and are comfortable with. Larian pretty much admitted they have no experience with something like RTWP. Which is fine, but as an old school Baldur’s Gate fan RTWP was a big part of the experience. That, combined with (understandably) losing the extreme visual detail of the originals doesn’t make this look or feel like a BG game at all to me. The branding is vestigial. My argument doesn’t take into account what constitutes a more faithful, D&D experience because tbh I don’t care. Insofar as it didn’t stop the old games from being fa
  22. Turn-based combat is exactly the kind of thing I meant when saying that using the Baldur’s Gate name was unnecessary, and could even be detrimental. I don’t associate TB with Baldur’s Gate at all, and the thought of it gives me an odd, skin crawling sensation. I have to think if the game is otherwise good enough then I could get used to it, but still...skin crawling.
  23. Tempting, but to be honest the last time I fiddled that much to get something working was in the earlier days of P.C gaming. It’s an age I never want to revisit! Do appreciate the offer of a potential shortcut, though. I may take you up on that in the future if I’m feeling braver.
