  1. With some of the discussion over instant on mode, fans and power draw Ive noticed something odd. The fan behaviour after turning the series x off depends on the game you were last playing. If I’ve been playing Gears 5 for example the fan continues to run indefinitely (at least several hours). If I’ve been playing Ori or Fallen Order then the fan stops after a short while, I’m assuming when the console has cooled down. Not a large data set but I’m wondering if there is a bug related to quick resume compatible games or something?
  2. As notorious as the Killzone 2 trailer was I have to give credit where it is due, the actual game came surprisingly close to that sequence. I also rate it as a shooter, had a pretty unique weight and pace to it. I have a theory that being forced into the position of trying to live up to that video laid the groundwork for the graphical/technical skill that Guerrilla Games now demonstrate.
  3. I agree, this wouldn't have been a last minute thing like the XBone was. There was talk leaking out of devs a long time ago of performance in the 8TF range, which is what makes me think they upped it at some point.
  4. They can shrink the chips a bit more. The issue is that in doing so the cost per transistor is no longer dropping like it used to. So smaller chip is not cheaper.
  5. I'm sure that the original design for PS5 was to not run the chips so fast and have a smaller unit. But as it became apparent what was possible and what MS were doing they were forced to push the clocks much higher than planned, thus heat and power draw. That would have required a bigger heatsink and case and here we are. A bit like the way MS upped the clocks on the XBox One but done earlier in the process.
  6. They've not improved this much in the 10+ years since I was in the industry? Bloody hell.
  7. I'm pretty sure that the back compatible HDR enhancement stuff is the product of machine learning which is why MS think it is good enough to use. A little more sophisticated than some are fearing and definitely something I'm interested in seeing in action.
  8. The only thing that bothered me about the Spiderman Remaster was that I couldn't use my PS4 save on it. I'm mainly interested in playing the DLC with the all the shiny. This got me wondering why this might be, and my hunch is that at a system level the Sony operating system/eco system won't allow saves between games for security. As the remaster is considered a whole new game in the Sony ecosystem, no save game carryover. Then I realised that this may be why you can't upgrade your PS4 copy to the remaster, it's considered a whole new game and there just isn't a way to do it. The reason you can do it on Miles is because the PS4 and PS5 upgrade/version are coming out at the same time and are considered the 'same' game effectively. TLDR - My theory is that the remaster upgrade isn't being offered because they can't do it on a technical level due to the way that PSN and Playstation's operating system is setup.
  9. Remind me, if I get a few of these cards then they will just resume charging me normally after the cards 'time' has been used up?
  10. Argos came through for me again. They've had a pretty penny out of me this week that's for sure.
  11. I've done 120fps at 1080p and 1440p without a problem. Unfortunately my C8 does not have HDMI 2.1 to try the 4k 120fps.
  12. I've had a text message confirming my Argos order as well as the email and it being in my accounts orders section. I think I'm good to go. Hope the others trying through Argos get some clarity soon.
  13. From what I've heard the PS5 was harder to put together at the start than they had hoped which was the actual limitation rather than any unexpected yield issues. It may be the case that MS has more available if they avoided any teething issues. Here's hoping anyway.
  14. I believe there was. I chose delivery because of the risk of lock down returning.
  15. I lucked out. I woke up at about 5am from the other half’s snoring. Thought I’d have a look at the Argos site out of curiosity and two minutes later I have a PS5 digital preordered and have received a receipt email too. For those asking the money has already been taken from my account.
  16. I've started playing this on PC as well as PS4 now, but tis a lonely place at the moment. Is there a list of forumites out there I can add to my Steam Friends that might be interested in teaming up for some of the larger endgame stuff?
  17. If you see me around then ping me an invite. I've soloed the competitive stuff for this season but am happy to jump in to help tip the odds with some co-ordination.
  18. That's the effect I'm talking about. On the S it is markedly improved over the CV1. If I remember correctly the PSVR sub pixel structure is different, which means you don't see it so much even on it's lower resolution screen.
  19. The blacks are worse on the S, but I've found it varies on a game by game basis by how much. Vader is just plain bad for this, where as in Beat Sabre or Lone Echo I don't notice it at all. For me the improvement in resolution and reduced screen door effect massively out weigh any issue with the blacks that there may be.
  20. I'm thoroughly pleased with my Rift S upgrade. A lot more comfortable with glasses, way better resolution, great ease of use and the pass through so you can see the world around you is incredibly useful. My only gripe is that the sound in music games is lacking. It is absolutely fine for all others, but it lacks volume and bass for Beat Sabre...although when playing that it is easy enough to plug in some headphones, and in my case I also have option to pass the music through to the surround sound in the room. Now I just need to get around to boxing up and selling the original Rift.
  21. This truly is a lot of fun. Everything about it is so slickly done, you can feel the thought that they have put into all the systems.
  22. I get the feeling that the players in crucible can be a bit thin on the ground and that the matchmaking is really struggling with it. On Monday I decided to bum about in Quickplay for a bit... had two matches back to back against a 4 stack and then a 5 stack, both of which had three members with Not Forgotten! Up to this point I had only ever seen maybe 3 of them in the wild, and then I come across 6 players with them in two games. I'm certainly not a good enough to be going up against these dudes. The defeats were crushing in their swift brutality.
  23. I really enjoyed the couple of hours I played last night, re-familiarizing myself with BF is always good. One observation though, it felt as if the Medic class was nerfed in to the ground with the addition of the ability of everyone to revive and self heal. I'm sure there is more subtlety to it than that, but that was my initial impression.
  24. Thanks, it's a great hand cannon! Not sure I'd want to go through that 3 times though Just finished the Redrix's Broadsword quest too....man that is a beast in crucible as well. Once you trigger the desperado perk it's devastating!
