The lastest turnover on the production is the hiring of two new editors, in the stead of the previously attached Dennis Virkler - though at least Virkler got to add the film to his stunning resume of crowd displeasers, alongside Xanadu, Freejack, the Schumacher Batman films and other such gems. The production really couldn’t have called on a pair of more impressive names to save the day, however, with action expert Mark Goldblatt and all-round Edit Bay Yoda Walter Murch getting the nod.
Amongst other credits, Goldblatt was the editor of Cameron’s Terminator films and the only Michael Bay films to be remotely comprehensible, and directed second unit on Robocop; while Murch was the sound editor on The Conversation and The Godfather Part 2, sound and picture editor of Apocalypse Now, editor of Ghost and The Talented Mr. Ripley, and director of Return to Oz.

Still looking forward to this loads, and having a fantastic duo of editors should help to steer it in the right direction.

According to the original source, his existing score is back in the film. He's not back on the job. Additional composers are working to finish it off.

I quite liked Hopkins' performance, thought it was suitable hammy when needed. Weaving was good too considering how slight his part was. Everyone else was just dull, including Del Toro unfortunately. Emily Blunt as a love interest is non-existent.
Even though it's quite gory in places, it felt like the film was often holding back. The Wolfman just didn't feel savage enough to me, there should have been far more carnage especially during the second transformation scene.
There were touches of brilliance though, namely in the cinematography. It definitely tips its hat to the Universal monster flicks of old and even has a touch of Hammer Horror at times.
A big disappointment really as it had so much potential. Maybe the rumoured extended cut can fix some of the issues.

What was the wolfman transformation like? Did Rick Baker do himself proud?
Wonder now what Romanek's version would have been like.

Yeah, the troubled production is plain to see in the final product. A mate of mine who didn't know of the troubles said that if felt like "scenes were missing".
Sad to report but the transformations are almost complete CG. I've not seen any of the Underworld flicks but from the clips I have seen, Wolfman is better.
I was gutted not to see a more Baker heavy transformation. The full on Wolfman prosthetic is good though, more Lon Chaney than American Werewolf but if you've seen the posters or trailer, you already know that.
I'm not sure what is more disappointing – the lack of Baker's work or the subdued Del Toro performance. Del Toro plays an actor in the film so you'd think he'd be a ever so slightly more dramatic or flamboyant. Instead his acting background is only relied upon to hint at possible schizophrenic tendencies.
I'm trying to think of how Romanek's version would have looked. Conceptually I don't think it would have been much different (what with him leaving late in pre=production) but I'd imagine the tone and atmosphere would differ. We'd probably still have the hacked script though. There's obviously a fair chunk of lore that has been left out. No idea if it was even shot though, so who knows if we'll ever see it.
As negative as I might sound, I still think it's worth a watch. Not necessarily on the big screen but definitely on Blu-ray.
