Sorry, I'm descending further and further into pedantry which I detest. I shall cease such corrections in future.

No.

Being EA is irrelevant. Orange Box was EA published and that's region free.

Wasn't Orange Box only published by EA on the PS3?

I did a bit of double-take then as well, checked the box and saw no EA branding and had to check online to sate my brain. Turns out they distributed the boxed retail versions and handled the PS3 port in-house.

Anyway, I'm definitely wrong on my earlier account of their games being entirely region-locked. Rock Band 360 is, though.

Well done (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) . I'm sure EA had some kind of special involvement with the PS3 version though... maybe an EA studio was responsible for the PS3 port?

Edit - Aha! Yes (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) .

You were told that the pack that amazon priced at £70 and then withdrew a price from would be the game and guitar pack by someone at play.com event?

Well I was told Guitar and the game was 69.99

From ign - awful, awful prices:

UK, April 8, 2008 - Electronic Arts has at long last settled on an official European release date for Rock Band. However, don't get too excited unless you're an Xbox 360 owner – the May 23 launch on Microsoft's console will doubtless please 360 owners, but those hoping to jam on PlayStation 3, PS2 and Wii will have to wait until later in the summer. Initially it will only be available in the UK, France and Germany too, with other European territories to follow.

Perhaps more disappointing is the price: unlike the US, which received a Special Edition that includes the game, a Fender Strat guitar, the drum kit and a mic, all for $169 – Europe will only get an Instrument Edition priced £129.99 / 169 Euros, including the three peripherals but not the game – which, bought separately, will set you back £49.99 / 69.99 Euros. So, if you want the proper Rock Band experience, the minimum you're going to have to shell out is around £180 / 240 Euros.

Quite why EA has decided to release the Instrument Pack without the game is anyone's guess, although it's likely retailers will bundle the two together, if not at launch then hopefully shortly after. In addition, wireless guitars will be available separately for the princely sum of £59.99 / 79.99 Euros, with standalone drum kits setting you back £69.99 / 89.99 Euros.

There is some good news though. In addition to the 58 songs featured in the US game, Europe will get eight news tracks from English, French and German bands, all bundled on the disc:

- Beetlebum (Blur)
- Rock 'n' Roll Star (Oasis)
- Hysteria (Muse)
- Manu Chao (Les Wamaps)
- New Wave (Playmo)
- Hier Kommt Alex (Die Toten Hosen)
- Perfekte Welle (Juli)
- Countdown to Insanity (H-Block X)

What's more, the 70-plus downloadable tracks already available in US will be waiting for European rockers come May 27, priced 160 MS points each. Plus, US players can get their mitts on the eight European tracks around the same time. Quick recap then: if you want to the ultimate Rock Band experience, with two guitars and every song at your fingertips, be sure to put aside £330 / 430 Euros. On a positive note, going forward, Europe will have access to new downloadable songs at the same time as the US.

£180?! That's got to be a joke. My dreamt up price I was pre-emptively moaning about to Moosegrinder down thread was that they would rip off UK punters to the tune of 140 quid. 180?! Just remember, you can get an Xbox Premium with GTAIV for £200 through Play.com. Fucking hell.

They must have got that wrong. Surely it's 130 for all the instruments and the game, not without the game. What do you do if you've bought the game for 50 quid but no mic, drums or guitar? Just sit and look at it? Surely wires are crossed...right?

Plus a delay on every other format, even the ones with the highest install base and the ones selling the most in Europe? yikes

If these are the prices I may have to look into cashing in the set we have on eBay or something.

Rock Band is fun with a few people playing but it's not worth £180 / 240 Euros / $360 US, that's just crazy prices. This has to be a hoax, they couldn't justify a £110 difference.

Presumably it's to allow buyers to just buy the game and a guitar or a drum kit, as well as the complete set. I expect retailers will choose to bundle the game with any instrument choice at a reduced price, but it's still a ridiculous price range.

Yeah it's still wild. If the game is going for 50 quid and the guitar for 60, if they take a few quid off for a guitar bundle the same way they do for GH, might be about £95? The drums are going for 70 quid so with the 50 quid game, you might get it for about £100-105?! Jesus.

Why on earth would they sell all the peripherals together without the game?

That's absolutely barmpot.

Oof. That's a kick in the European balls right there. £180 is an awful lot, even for the best game ever.

So glad I held out for the UK release now.
Cunts. Oh at least we get some bonus tracks, great, oh no they are all shit.

They can stick it for the Instrument Pack, I'll be picking up the game only and playing it with my old GH2 guitar.
