So are there any bluray multi-region hacks/players available yet?

I need to buy some Criterion blurays.

Oh, and a bluray player.

Does anyone have American Gangster on Blu-ray? I can't for the life of me find the audio commentary option :)

The Sony S350 can be made multi-region with a code, apparently - and it's a very good player too, from what I've heard (£160).

Tech specs will see the 160-minute film spread across a BD-50 dual-layer disc, with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video.

Among the bonus features are audio commentary by Kurosawa scholar Stephen Prince, a 30-minute documentary, the full-length film "A.K.," by director Chris Marker, a 35-minute video recreating many Kurosawa paintings and sketches for the film, a new video interview with star Tatsuya Nakadai, theatrical trailers and a 28-page booklet with interviews and essays.

Released on 12th May.

I just punched the air, in my mind.

All the Criterion stuff will be region locked though, won't it?

It's only multi-region when it comes to DVDs, though.

I was wondering if some of you chaps could help me?
I see that some of Fox's US titles are actually region free, Napoleon Dynamite being one of them. I want to pick up the Canadian disc, as it's actually cheaper, what are the chances of it bring region locked? Checking out the specs, language options, etc, both the US and Canadian discs are identical. I just don't trust those Fox bastards!

Titles which are region free in the US can sometimes be locked in Canada. I don't know about the Canadian Napoleon Dynamite.

Are you sure? Ive checked online and although I couldnt find a hack for blu-ray playback I have seen many places selling these with region A and B support plus all regions for DVDs. So unless these ads are bullshit there must be a way in getting it to be dual region. I would certainly hope so as it would mean I wouldnt have to sell my S350 and get a PS3 when I move to Canada.

They are probably physically chipped rather than just unlocked with a code.

It seems that to get multiregion DVD playback, you simply put a code in the remote control. However to get multiregion BD playback, there has to be a physical hardware modification, which is why the region A and B machines seem to be incredibly expensive...

Is that the Truman Capote adaptation? I loved the book.

This. I'm sure I read when I was doing my research that at the moment there is no soft-mod for Blu-ray players.

Incidentally, if anyone wants a One 4 All remote to soft-mod the S350, I'll likely be selling a never-used one in the Trading folder in a few days. Bought it, then bought a pre-modded player. Whoops.

Also, thanks to this thread my first BD will be Speed-Racer. It'll be my first 1080p movie, so I'm thoroughly looking forward to it arriving in the next couple of days and experiencing that pure colour brain injection someone mentioned. :(

You wanted an upgraded Terminator 2 Blu-ray. You've got one.

And no doubt you'll get many more.

Surely Fox should be gearing up for a 30th Anniversary Edition Blu-Ray release of the Alien series later this year? That'd be fucking great.

From that article:

...which will arrive concurrently with the 'Limited Edition Terminator 2 Complete Collector's Set,' a seven-disc set which will bundle the Blu-ray 'Skynet Edition' with the previous 'Ultimate Edition' and 'Extreme Edition' DVD versions.

Why would anyone need all of them? ;)
