Superb tongue in cheek action flick which I bought recently on DVD. The thing I love is, if this was made now it would be classified as a 12 and no actual violence would be in it. As it was made 20 years ago, its a 15 and it retains the bone-crunching,arm-breaking action sequences!
Great film with ace one liners throughout. My girlfriend didn't get it though (after watching it for the first time ever a month or so ago) but she was only about 3 when it was made! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |

Jack Burton: All I know is that this Lo Pan character comes out of thin air in the middle of a goddamn alley while his buddies are flying around on wires cutting everybody to shreds while he just STANDS there waiting for me to drive my truck straight through him with LIGHT coming out of his mouth!
Love Kurt Russell in this. |

One of my favourite movies, make no mistake.
[Massive floating eyeball flies down the corridor towards Burton after he's seen one too many examples of freaky shit] "OH MY GOD, WHAT IS THAT? IS THAT AN EYE?! DON'T TELL ME!" QUOTE Lo-pan: What sort of lineage does she come from? Jack Burton: You got a tongue, Dave. Ask her yourself QUOTE Jack Burton: Are you crazy is that your problem? QUOTE Egg Shen: Can see things no one else can see. Do things no one else can do. Jack Burton: Real things? Egg Shen: As real as Lo Pan! Jack Burton: Hey, what more can a guy ask for? Egg Shen: Oh, a six-demon bag! Jack Burton: Terrific, a six-demon bag. Sensational. What's in it, Egg? Egg Shen: Wind, fire, all that kind of thing! Its the way that the lines are delivered too. No-one else could have done that role better than Kurt Russell (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Still one of my all time favorite films. |

Yep. Carpenter and Russell have to be one of my favourite director/actor partnerships.
Big Trouble especially. From Jack's cheesey samurai muscle vest, through fighting supernatural ninja types in the street. all to the soundtrack of these pumping rawk synths, this is definitely the best videogame movie not about videogames. The Mortal Kombat series owes EVERYTHING to this movie. One of the greatest pieces of opening dialogue: QUOTE(Jack Burton) When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, looks you crooked in the eye and asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yes sir. The check is in the mail." [Takes massive man-sized bite out of his huge sandwich] All of this over his CB radio, broadcasting to the other truckers out on the late shift. You just know they're all sat there like (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Then later in the film, to one of the Lords of Death: "You know what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this..." "WHO?!" "Jack. Burton... ME!" |

And the fact that it is deliberately a complete turnaround of Snake Plissken makes it all the better.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) actually, while i agree it would get made a lot tamer now, it was heavily cut upon its UK release at the time. |

One of my all time favourite films as well. Bit sad they never made a sequel. Also love the non typical ending; Kim Catrall finally falls for him and he just buggers off without even kissing her (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol.gif) |

Oh man, this film.
'There's something wrong...' 'I know - there's something wrong with your face!' And the girl swimming past with her tits out for no reason at all. |

Am I the only one who loves the closing Coup deVilles track (and the cheesy video that goes with it - see YouTube)? I probably knackered the rental video by playing the end credits so many times. The chorus is awsome.
Takes me back 20 years in the blink of an eye... |

"we gotta run....running through the mystic night..." I LOVE the fact that in the 80's every movie end credits had to have the title of the film in the song. "isn't she...pretty in pink" "To live and die...in L.A." "When there's....8 million ways to dieeeeeee" |
