Freesat from Sky

Cancelled Sky several months ago after realising all the channels I watch are covered by their Freesat deal anyway, when I cancelled and checked if I needed a specific Freesat from Sky card the chap at the end said the one I already had would just revert to the Freeview only service. Fine, that's what happened. In the last few weeks we've been getting a message popping up saying "You need a new card soon, go to www.sky.com/replacecard" which we've been ignoring but I've just had a look because it's getting more and more annoying in that it's ruining recordings, but it's going to cost £20 for the pleasure of a new card. Because I'm on the Freesat deal does this mean they can just keep charging me every time they decide I need a new card from now on?

Ebay issues

I boiught an item on ebay quite a while ago now. The item has not arrived after a lot of contact with the seller. The seller claimed the item had been returned to him in the post twice (which is strange because it came nowhere near my house, my dad's in all the time!). After about 2 and a half weeks i asked him for an update to which he replied, "It should be with you tomorrow".

That was about a week and a half ago. I've tried messaging him through ebay to find out what the score is. He ignored me. I emailed him (i know thats mayb intrusive but i feel messed about),he ignored me, and after warning him and giving him a chance to respond i've filed a paypal dispute. Still nothing.

I don't know what to do to get him to respond. There was plenty of contact at the starts, and now NOTHING.......any advice welcome!

Kebab

Whats the best way to watch .MKV (or other HD files) on my TV?

Hi Guys,

Following on from the great response on asking what TV to go for I thought I would ask you lot my next question, I havnt even bothered wih AVF this time as they seem useless at responding.

Anyway, ive gone and bought the Panasonic 46" G10, hopefully delivered next week.

I just want to know whats the easiest way of watching downloaded HD films on my new TV when it arrives? I'm used to just watching standard xvid dvd rips and since getting into blu-ray im finding it harder to sit and watch xvid films without the quality annoying me!

Incase you need this info the gear I have currently is:

46" G10 (soon anyway!)
Sony SF1300 5.1 Surround
Sony BD350 Blu-Ray player
Xbox 360
Sony Laptop (It has HDMI socket)

Ive been reading about all different pieces of hardware / software such as Asus Oplay, Popcorn Hour, HD Players etc. And I have no idea which is going to be suitable for me needs.

I want to simply download an .MKV file from newsgroups and watch it on my TV.

The cheapest / most effective option will be the winner!

Cheers again, Im sure one of you will have all the answers I seek!

Ricky

Please help me identify an album from 2000/01

Hi. My wife's trying to find out the name of an album she used to listen to at uni - came out in 2000 or 2001 and was by a pop duo of two guys. The front cover was a picture of a park bench/table combo (like them ones in beer gardens) with a guy on each side of the table and a blonde girl sitting on the table between them.

Lyrics from one of the songs in the album consisted of something like "Your coat must be waterproof because your hair is not wet" and "It must have been 3 years since you left me" and "What can I do for you?" or some such sloppy nonsense.

Any ideas at all? If someone can help me, I'll , erm, I'll say thank you.

Astrophotography

Anyone here partake in a bit of star trail photography?

Reading Dec 09 Astronomy mag today it talks about how to photograph star trails, and I rather fancy a go myself. It also says you don't need to have a telescope, which is handy because Santa isn't coming just yet!

Do you guys use any particularly fancy equipment for your pics? I've got a Nikon D90 DSLR with an 18-200 mm lens, would this do it? Or do I have to use a film camera? What else do I need?

Post pix please

"Boil water" notice issued by Council

As some of you may have seen from my posts in the "What Are You Doing Right Now?" thread, Cork has been hit by some pretty horrible floods (well, by Irish standards) today. The water supply has been cut off for most of the city, but it seems my area wasn't included in this. The Council have issued a notice to households that still have a water supply, advising them to boil the water before using it. Does anyone know if it's safe to do the washing-up with the water straight from the tap in this situation? It might be a silly question, but I want to be sure!

Thanks!

Seagate Momentus 7200.4 HDD device recognition issue

I am in need of assistance on another issue related to my laptop. It regards a laptop hard drive that I recently bought. Windows isn't recognizing it when I connect it via a USB enclosure that I've got it housed in.

I'm not sure if there is an issue with the enclosure itself since I had to partly break it open to get at its contents to remove a previous drive but I'm in a bit of a Catch 22 in that I know I have to get the drive formatted to FAT but am not sure how I am able to do this if Windows isn't recognizing the drive in the first place. I managed to format my old PS3 HDD somehow when it had the same issue but forgot how I did it. I'd really appreciate any assistance on this as it is really getting on my nerves!
