Given that I have given up playing any other game apart from FFXI now and can't see that changing anytime soon, this thread is in all honestly the only real reason I look at the forum at the minute.
Given that all of the other threads seem to be about Splinter Cell doesn't help things either mind!

By the way Xiphoid, why the Eisenhower quote?"The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded"

The commercialism of opinion being the overriding point, 'sacrificing' truth for perspective... something that has been on my mind for a few weeks and I thought this quote made a good, narrow point, in that direction. It is a little more complicated than I say, but that's the gist.By the way Xiphoid, why the Eisenhower quote?

Did hub2 manage to get his Magicked Skull?

I did, went to Gusgen Mines and there was a party there being helped by a Lvl 60-odd Paladin. Thankfully (for me) one of the party ignored the paladins advice to stay back and died, leaving room for me to join. And so I got my skull.Did hub2 manage to get his Magicked Skull?
BTW Gusgen mines is pretty cool, and kinda freaky at the same time. There are lots of 'Ghost Children' who pop up occasionally and then disappear - very strange! Might have something to do with a quest or something? But none the less, it's slightly unsettling.
It's quite empty, so it might be a good place to level if you're at the right level. Obviously it's full of ghouls, but also Bogy's, warrior skeletons, some kind of wolf and some kind of fly. I'll definately go back to do a bit of mining as soon as the time's right.
At the moment I'm leveling my sub, which is War and am at level 8 - you all were right about the pace at which you progress once you have your sub, I gained those eight levels in just a few hours messing around in the Ronfaure - it helps to have a fully capped weapon level all the time. The aim is to get to 15 in war so that I'll be plain sailing with my thief (currently 19) until level 30 when the advanced jobs open up.
Oh and as soon as I hit 20 in thief It's off to Jeuno to get the chocco license. I suppose you'll probably hit quifim again in your new job around the same time as me, so I look forward to partying together for the first time!
Whew... well that's where I stand, still I suppose a 'Yes' would have been enough.

Obviously new level cap quests will be added... as well as new areas. It must surely only be a matter of time before an entire expansion pack is added - wpresumably with a few more jobs and options. That's the name of the linkshell he's in.

I've been reading lots of stuff about 'Blue Mages' and 'Gamblers' on a few sites... it just seems to me that any new jobs will just be variations on others that already exist. For example isn't a Blue Mage kind of like a Beastmaster but with a mana pool?
Gambler is like the job class that have been in a few other FF games, don't know what else they could add.
Maybe alchemist? Like a Ninja or Ranger so far as they use consumables, but this could be another enfeebling/buffing class.

Sounds like people making up possible new classes.... can't see wht a Blue age would be like a BST but with mana, surely you would be a BST with RDM sub for that?
what new job classes could be made is an interesting start for some creative thinking though.

Oh, and isn't blue mage a mage that learns the abilities and magic of monsters? Thats like a Beastmaster isn't it? I honestly don't know - it just seemed similar. And Gambler has kinda been in other FF games too. Like in FF6 that guy who owns the airship (Edit: Setzer), Cait Sith in FF7, and I think one of the female characters in FF8 (Selphie?)

Rikku in FFX had various attacks that you paid gil to perform. There is no way I'm spending gil in FFXI though as its too hard come by - I think I'd rather get ko'd than use money related attacks!Yeah, I think it's just second guessing the developers - but then people are just looking at other FF games and guessing the classes will come from there.

Thinking about it, that could be a great 2 hour job ability for a gambler class.Rikku in FFX had various attacks that you paid gil to perform. There is no way I'm spending gil in FFXI though as its too hard come by - I think I'd rather get ko'd than use money related attacks!
The 2 hour is kinda supposed to be an emergency only ability... what better than to combine it with the gil in your pocket for that kind of character?

My emergency only kit at the minute = 1 Perfect Dodge + 2 potions + 2 antidotes. Add that lot to some decent TP and Ive managed to dig myself out of one or two dodgy solo scrapes.Thinking about it, that could be a great 2 hour job ability for a gambler class.

Could you guys tell me how I can play with you? The manual says something about "World Passes," would I need one of those?
Thanks

When you get to the create character screen, select your character. You then go to a handle screen. Don't proceed but go back to see what world your character is in. The game world you need is Geruda. If its not Geruda, just keep reselecting your character (it remembers the characteristics you previously chose by default) and going to and from the handle screen until you see on the left side of your character screen your name, type and most importantly world Geruda. Can take 20 minutes or so although when I did it, I got Geruda second time round.Just got it today (installing now!)

One of the others may have a world pass, in which case you can type this in on the character selection screen. I don't have a world pass (you buy them from Bastok I think - one of the cities in the game).
We are mainly based in the city of Windhurst, although I think Hub2 and Melon Bread are from San Doria. You can choose from three starting Cities of Windhurst, san Doria or Bastok. You will ideally have to level up to about LV10 to fancy your chances of realistically being able to journey between the cities, unless you are part of a party.

Anyway how do the subjobs work, I see that the subjob doesnt level unless you make it your main job so do I now need to switch to a new job and go thru all the solo leveling again? Or will the subjob level quickier because of my already increased stats? And what happens with your equipment do I now need 2 lots of stuff?

Yes
Or will the subjob level quickier because of my already increased stats?
Yes, I'm finding it much quicker, you do get stat bonuses. It aslo helps that I'm using a sword fo both Thief and Warrior. My skill level is constantly capped at the moment (as is evasion and shield) from my previous leveling. However as Monk focusing in h2h, you will be using another weapon in your next job so you'll have to level that seperately.
And what happens with your equipment do I now need 2 lots of stuff?
Yes, although you can just sell it when you're not using it, to make room in you mog safe/inventory. No need to 'fully equip' for the first 10 or so levels of your new job though... you'll fly through all the mobs and your stat bonuses and experience should give you the edge. Just get body armour, a shield, leg wear and anything extra you might like. FWIW I'm flying through leveling my subjob.
