According to http://www.kotaku.co...ugh-parliament/

Jason Clare, the Minister for Home Affairs has just announced that R18+ for games is set to become a reality, after legislation successfully passing through the Federal Parliament, having just gone through the Senate without amendment.
...
The next stage for the R18+ classification is for each separate state to pass their own complimentary legislation, since classification remains a state issue.
According to Jason Clare’s website, this means that, subject to the separate state legislation, we could be on schedule to see our first R18+ for games become a reality by January 1st 2013.

Yessssssssss!

No more will we have these stupid issues where some games are censored and/or banned while big games like GTA are pushed down to a 15 rating.

And finally I'll be able to play a version of Left4Dead 2 that doesn't have the zombies disappearing BEFORE they hit the ground.

It was getting silly. Australia was the reason why Fallout 3 had drugs with sci fi names.

Also Left 4 Dead uncut banned but Dead Island got a pass. A real wtf moment.

The earlier games had morphine as well. Australia objected.

I wonder when we're going to see R18 rated games from the BBFC in the UK?

Grand Theft Auto? Manhunt?

EDIT: Didn't realise there were two BBFC 18 ratings.
