Retro Revival: Zynaps

One blown up picture barely showing anything over 2 pages with minimal text. See last months Thanatos rant.

:hmm:

Rest of the mag great as usual!

We,ve been running retro revivals in that way for the last 80 issues. Have you only just noticed? Or is it because you like the games and don't feel they have substantial enough write ups?

On the RG blog a post today says Simpsons Arcade is a PSN exclusive and it's coming to XBLA in the future. Well, it was there last week.

Just saying.

Strider - will there be a vol 3 of the "VIDEOGAMERS HANDBOOK" sometime in the future ?
and what happened to the "hand held" handbook hinted at in Vol 2 ?
cheers

The Smiths in Gloucester has stocked this for years. Went in there today to find the range of mags shockingly small. Good job I've just taken out a sub, but it doesn't start until 100. Shame on you, Smiths!

Another great mag- my only gripe is the top 25 for the CPC. Maybe they would have been great at the time, before widescale emulation, but most of the games- to be frank- are better on other systems, be it arcade, 16 bit etc. It's just from a modern perspective, it's very hard to go through that list and actually play them on a CPC emulator, knowing that there's better versions of them elsewhere (apart from maybe head over heels- but then the Amiga version is probably better! ;-) ).

And yet bizarrely, The Sacred Armour of Antiriad (which the Amstrad version was by far the best) is missing.... hmmmm...

Still, great articles on 3d Monster Maze and Platinum Productions- although they were a bit obscure they made a huge amount of my favourite speccy games!

It was voted by readers. As for better versions. On the 16-bit machines maybe, but certainly not the C64 or Spectrum.

It's an interesting one. We've had one reader write in and tell us they've cancelled their subscription, while others really enjoyed it and want us to do more. (Mega Drive, Vs SNES has been asked for a lot). We'll see what happens.

I find it so funny that there are really, genuinely, people who still get upset about this after all these decades!
I mean, I KNOW the Spectrum was the superior machine, because I lived through those days , but I'm certainly not going to get upset in the slightest if anyone else who lived through them disagrees with me.
You only have to go on the RG forums though to see there are still people who take these rivalries very seriously.

I can't believe that Amstrad top 25 dosen't have Tubaruba in it. It could be because so few people have played it of course.

Yeah, superior at stopping doors from closing.

But opened doors for people getting into the industry.
You see what I did there?

A heads-up that a new Retro Gamer bookazine has appeared 'in the wild' (or WH Smith as it is better known. It doesn't appear to be on the Imagine web store yet). It's a 228-page '30th anniversary special' that reprints articles on the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64. Sadly, it doesn't contain RG99's Spectrum Vs. Commodore face-off (I guess it's too new to be included), but there's a lot of interesting content in here for anyone who doesn't buy the magazine on a regular basis. I'm not a fan of magazines that force the reader to rotate it 180 degrees to read an article, but it's used intelligently here as a way to give each machine its own cover and the 'first' 114 pages of coverage.
