The Rllmuk Academy Awards Pool 2012

Yes, it's that time of year again - Oscar time! And with Oscar time comes this, the FOURTH annual Rllmuk Academy Awards Pool. Rather than bore you with any further introductory ramblings, here, for your perusal, are the rules:

General:

  • The entry fee will be a £5 Amazon.co.uk voucher. The e-mail address to which this is to be sent will be PMd to each confirmed participant. I will then hold the list of codes (without spending them, of course!), which will be sent to the winner upon the completion of score-tallying.
  • The deadline for submission of entry forms is 10pm on the 26th February. Entries received after this time will not be accepted.
  • Entries are to be PMd to me, and cannot be altered once submitted.
  • And don't worry, I will not, under any circumstances, open your PMs until the deadline has passed or my choices have been locked down. I will PM my own choices to whatever participant volunteers to receive them, just to allay any fears that I could try and alter my choices in my favour after the ceremony. [update 21/2: lordcookie now has my picks!]

Scoring System:

  • We will be utilising a weighted scoring system for the competiton. There are 24 awards to be given out on the night, which we will split into 3 groups of 8. The first group (the 'major' awards) will be worth 3 points. The second group (the 'secondary' awards) will be worth 2 points, and the final group (the rest) will be worth 1 point.
  • The categories, nominees, and template for submission of voting forms can be found below.
  • The winner will be announced on the day after the award ceremony, at the latest.

Prizes:

  • The prize will be a series of Amazon vouchers, each with a value of £5. The more entrants we have, the more you can win, so encourage others to participate! Whether or not we will split up the prize pool, and how to split it, can be decided amongst the participants once the final number of entrants is confirmed.

Tie Breaker:

In the event of two people being equal on points at the end of the night, the winner will be decided based on points earned in the major four categories (Picture, Director, Actor, Actress). (Credit to lordcookie for this idea!)

Participants:

  • Ben
  • Darragh
  • DeadRussian
  • Exidor
  • Fohat
  • Goose
  • grounded_dreams
  • Hardwired
  • jon_cybernet
  • lordcookie

Bold = Paid Up

I never win but I'm definitely up for it again. I'm hoping the fact that I've only seen one of the films nominated in the major four categories might help me this time.

Picks and voucher received! Like you, I've only seen one of the Best Picture nominees (The Tree of Life), so I'm going to try and see a few more before I make my decisions.

I haven't seen any of the nominees, and I doubt I will. However my track record speaks for itself. It says "in"

Will PM you shortly with my list; tricky to separate in my head the films that deserve to win and the ones the Academy will undoubtedly pick...

Sorry for the delay in getting back to everyone! Everyone should have all the necessary information now, just let me know if I've forgotten you! I'm about to send a PM to everyone who took part last year to try and entice a few more into the fray. :P

I'll try to send my picks to lordcookie tomorrow for safekeeping.

Right, everything should be up to date now. Lordcookie has my picks, and the list of participants and where they are in the process has been updated in the original post. As it stands, there will be £40 in the prize pool, which isn't too bad! I think we hit £70 last year, let's try to top it!

There seems to be a lot fewer "sure things" among the main categories this year, so those 3-pointers could get pretty hectic on the night! I haven't checked, but I'd be very surprised if we were unanimous on any of the categories, as has always happened in previous years.

£55, surely?

Right you are! How I forgot to add your name to the list of entrants, I don't know! All fixed now. :)

Have emailed Darragh the Amazon gift.

Received!

Darragh will send you a PM with the email address you need to send it to, or do you need more help than that?

If so:

- Go to Amazon

- Click gift cards which is near the top of the home page

- Pick 'e-mail a gift certificate'

- Add the amount (£5) and the email address that Darragh gives you

- Then go through a standard online transaction

Participant list updated! Just waiting on vouchers and picks from a few people. Still time to sign up, too, so if you're reading this and haven't joined up, just drop me a PM and I'll send the e-mail address for the Amazon voucher right over!

OK, I've heard nada from therearerules or poppa_f since they signed up, so I've removed them from the list for the moment. If either of you guys are reading, send your picks and voucher over ASAP if you still want in!

And yes, good luck to everyone! I'll try to keep y'all posted on the scores as the night progresses on the off-chance that you're as masochistic as I am and are staying up to watch the whole sordid affair.

Oh, the prize distribution! I almost forgot. In the event that poppa_f and therearerules don't re-enter the fray, there'll be £50 in the prize pool. Shall we say £40 for the winner, and £10 for the runner-up?
