RPL City - Season 16

609 posts in this topic

The comeback in match 2 was superb. Nice to be on the other end of something like that after we threw away a couple of good leads last season! Everyone is playing amazingly at the moment. Everyone worked brilliantly as a unit last night, and cracking banter to go with it!

I will keep this short.

If our defence can play like like we did in the first game, we will win the league.

Blimey Charlie, you did go on a bit there....can't you just stick to the point??!

Probably say that was one of the best performances from us in the past two seasons. I thought we all stuck to our jobs and we played the simple ball and it worked to great effect.

Got to the love the new quote that will be used for the rest of the season now for Tobes

"What he's going to dooooooooooo"

This weeks results

bap_3.gifRPL City 3 – 0 RPL Townbap_1.gif

With City managing to get a quick start out of the blocks into 2nd place, they had it all to do against an extremely tough German side, who were looking to bounce back from last weeks results. Tomox once again had a full team at his disposal, so no changes were afoot as the familiar formation lined up.

The Guay's settled into a composed start, moving the ball and probing around the German back-line for weaknesses. An organised Town side were giving no quarter as they doubled up in front of the defence, though could only clear the ball back to City, who began mounting further attacks. The rather inconspicuous TommyMAT was signalling his team-mates that he was not rather central, and it was his move that played in Richmac on 30'. Though it was a tight angle the shot was off target, and with an awaiting Seanfl9 in the area.....Richmac couldn’t capitalize on City's best chance of the game thus far. Ze Germans focussed on attacking down the left wing, but with the solid Tobert, backed by the fiery Bug Gus, Town were unable to carve out any decent openings. On the occasion they did manage to fire the ball into the City area, the 'Guays defence were composed enough to play the ball out of danger. As the half pushed on, City continued to press, but were unable to find a breakthrough.

Much of the same plus a goal was the humble request from Sir Tomox, so City continued where they left of in the first half. Richmac and TommyMAT began influencing the game down the wings, forcing the German back line to clear their lines. The perseverance of the City wingers finally paid off on 58' when Suarez crossed in from the right, all the way to the back post where Cavani was lurking to head back across the keeper into the net. The opener seem to break the German resistance as Town poured forward in search of a response, but with the solid City defence repelling the waves of attack, the inevitable happened when Sean broke out via a counter-attack, and squared the ball for the waiting Richmac, who turned and slotted home on 73'. Questions were raised by the German back-line as they were overheard asking who else could play as they were “slow-as-shit”. City weren't finished there though, when Tobert played a ball into Sean, who successfully held off the German challenges, weaved in-and-out and fired a shot with the outside of his foot past the keeper before he could set himself on 82'. City held solid for the closing stages to record a well-earned victory.

Gaffer Tomox heaped praise on the City collective;

A fantastic team performance tonight from the lads. They don't come better than that....they really dont!

MOTM1new.jpg

In the midst of arguably the best team performance of the last two seasons, this weeks award had to be split in two. City's hitman Seanfl9trophy.gif continued his rich vein of form with involvement in all three goals. Scoring two and providing an assist for the other, Sean has etched his name into the hearts of the City fans. Along side that name this week, is a face not before seen in the MotM category this season, but equally integral to City's win. Toberttrophy.gif provided immaculate cover for the right flank, in addition to controlling the midfield with his composed approach moving forward. Now he's won the trophy...Whats he going to doooooooo?

bap_1.gifRPL Town 2 – 2 RPL Citybap_3.gif

City had managed to shut out the Townies for a full 90' in game 1, and they were looking to replicate that in the return fixture.

Sadly that lasted exactly 2', as City kicked off, and Tobert passed the ball to Big Gus, the Germans swarmed on the City RB and dispossessed him, crossing the ball early into Gomez who nodded home before City had even finished pulling their socks up. The early impetus was with Town, as Pompey led the attacks down the wing, applying increasing pressure to the City defence. City resisted and pushed forward to respond, but following a corner, the 'Guays were hit with a suckerpunch, as Ze Germans countered and Podolski chipped a ball into Muller, who had time to rifle home on 25' the extend the Germans lead. City eventually calmed and settled into their tempo as the half drew on, but had it all to do in the 2nd half.

Following some initial debating about who had the longer pony-tail (Gussy wins Btw!), the City boys set about reducing the deficit. TommyMAT, who was hugging the touchline, was posing a constant threat down the left, with some super dribbling and crosses being concocted. The previous advice from TommyMAT of being “out wide” proved invaluable, as another maisy run resulted in the City winger wrong footing the German fullback with a back-heel, and then crossed for Cavani to head home and half the deficit. The City boys smelled blood, and pushed forward in search of an equalizer. Meanwhile, Town were looking to capitalize on the City attacking, with a counter-attack. It was a case of who could strike first. The answer came on 67', following a half cleared corner, Richmac facing away from goal, flicked the ball up and over his head, and chipped a delightful ball to Sean, whose powerful header found the net to level the scores. The final 20 mins saw both teams go for the win, though defences were winning the ongoing duels at both ends. In the dying minutes, Town won a corner, which was dangerously whipped in, and as the German striker headed the ball goal-wards, Kiko was on hand to smash the ball clear, and release Sean for a counter-attack. With the keeper commited, Sean crossed for Tomox, who headed goal-wards, only for LittleJoe to provide his own game saving goal-line clearance. So honours even as the final whistle blew, and City remain firmly in 2nd place.

MOTM2new.jpg

A showering of votes across six players in this comeback. Notably Tomox & kiko receiving double nominations for their attacking & defending respectively, but the accolade this week with four votes, falls into the lap of our very own TommyMATtrophy.gif. Out Wide!! was the City wingman, and when he got the ball, boy did he torment the German back line with his dribbling and crossing, resulting in providing the assist that galvanized the City performance. Keep eating that Ham Tommy boy, t'was awesome!

I could try to build up the tension here......but f**k it.....it was a whitewash by our injury ridden Seanfl9golden_boot.jpg. Take your pick! Going on a super-jinking run and firing home...heading home TommyMAT's cross...heading home Richmac's crosses twice...frankly this guy is a god-damn goal machine and its going to take an act of god to relinquish him of this title. Take a bow son!

The Homer Simpson “U R GAY” Award

Two great performances by City this week...so there's no room for the U.R.GAY award is there? Think again! After missing out last week, our Toberthomersmall.jpg made no mistake this time around, fitting in some quick bouts of crazy passing, with a pinch of TommyMAT impressions “Out Wide!” whilst he went about his shift. Phenomenal!

Great write up Kiko as usual. Thank you people for the votes this week, I try my best to make you happy :)

Timmo is right it's a great team you've put together Tomox, have never enjoyed BAP more than last/this season with everyone here at City. I don't think I could stomach it playing elsewhere in the future. I think i'd want to retire If i had to move on.

I'm picturing Tobes going down the slopes and i'm sure he will hear the voices of the RPL City lads shouting at him "What's he going to doOoOo". As he falls face first into a tree. Have fun Tobes. :hat:

Cheers for the kind words on my management skills! I do feel like we've snuck under the radar in terms of us climbing up the league. Its nice to know that everyone is having a lot of fun while we're playing well!

I've got two seasons left after this one, I'll try and do my best to make it as fun as last season and this thus far! :)

I won't be on tonight chaps, got family Birthdays to attend.

The plan for tomorrow is to leave Toberts position open as the any. I don't really want to disrupt the back or front line. (Mainly at the wrath of Gus!) ;)

Its Thursday night, that can only mean another exciting edition of...

"What's he going to doooooo?" Starring Tobert

This week, Tobert is repeatedly throwing himself down snow-covered hills in Italy. There have been several reports of Tobert attempting a 'blue run' while in Italy. Locals have commented that this is not a low budget, poorly made, Italian porn film, but a type of ski slope.

In news at home, is anyone missing for tonight aside 'Blue Run Tobes'?
