Film
Pixar's Brave

185 posts in this topic

"Brave" is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida (Kelly Macdonald) is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida's quest — and serving as comic relief — are the kingdom's three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), the surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), and the disagreeable Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane).
Director: Mark Andrews, Brenda Chapman

Starring: Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson, Robbie Coltrane

Granted this is not the most exciting news or picture but here is the logo for recently renamed feature, Brave.

I like this! it's very much reminiscent to the old Disney cartoons with their opening credits and style.

I'm glad monster inc 2 was dropped I think that film ended perfectly and there was no need for a squeal.

Lordcookie absolutely nailed it, I'd like to add Owen Wilson to the list of grievances though.

How to train your dragon is better than cars. So is cloudy with a chance of meatballs.

Also, here's some concept art from 'brave' from the Pixar Wikia

Brenda Chapman Exits Pixar's Brave

Source: Cartoon Brew

October 18, 2010

Cartoon Brew has learned that Brenda Chapman, who was to be the first woman director at Disney•Pixar for Brave, is now no longer with the studio.

The site says that story artist Mark Andrews (who also co-directed the Pixar short One Man Band) has taken over directorial duties.

Chapman previously directed The Prince of Egypt at DreamWorks.

Brave is being voiced by Reese Witherspoon, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson and Julie Walters.

Opening in theaters on June 15, 2012, it is the tale of impetuous, tangle-haired Merida who, though a daughter of royalty, would prefer to make her mark as a great archer. A clash of wills with her mother compels Merida to make a reckless choice, which unleashes unintended peril on her father's kingdom and her mother's life. Merida struggles with the unpredictable forces of nature, magic and a dark, ancient curse to set things right.

It's not the first time that Pixar have changed directors late in production. They do need new blood though considering most of the studios directing talent are now making live action films or busy overseeing the whole of Disney Animation.

Some (not all that impressive) concept art for Brave.

Kelly McDonald has replaced Reese Witherspoon as the lead too and considering the film is about a Scottish princess it is pleasing they are going with a native voice.

I dunno Cookie, I think that looks quite nice. Obviously it might all change by the time it comes to the screen but I like the chunky horse and fog in the second picture a lot.

I was probably being a little harsh on them but compared to a lot of concept art coming out of Pixar it just looked rather uninspired.

There is talk of a Brave trailer being attached to Cars 2 so we will see what the finished product looks like soon enough (although if past form is anything to go by no actual film footage will be shown in the teaser).

The colours look lush too.

Reminds me of Monkey Island, or some kind of old point and click game.

The first proper image from Brave has found its way online (a teaser will play before Cars 2 so hopefully we will get a better look of the film soon, although Pixar's teasers keep genuine footage to a minimum).

Brave-Image.jpg

It still has a hint of the traditional Pixar face (particularly Mirage from The Incredibles and Janeane from Ratouille) but it does look quite different from their normal style. I'll try and find a better copy of the picture and hopefully a few more pictures will have leaked out too.

A brief clip and info for La Luna, the short film most likely to play in front of Brave.

LaLuna_RGB-small.jpg

Synopsis: La Luna is the timeless fable of a young boy who is coming of age in the most peculiar of circumstances. Tonight is the very first time his Papa and Grandpa are taking him to work. In an old wooden boat they row far out to sea, and with no land in sight, they stop and wait. A big surprise awaits the little boy as he discovers his family’s most unusual line of work. Should he follow the example of his Papa, or his Grandpa? Will he be able to find his own way in the midst of their conflicting opinions and timeworn traditions?

Nice to see the Dad from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs still getting work.

These keep getting pulled so it is probably best if I attach them.

These are obviously just character designs and not necessarily representative of what the finished look will be like.
