And this time, it seems...

Spoiler

E3 2011 trailer:

Apparently, Nintendo has once more confirmed this title to be released late 2011/early 2012. Yet nothing was really said about it. Guess we will have to wait for Nintendo's own Space World (AKA Nintendo World) later this year for more info on this.

Wild gaming prediction 215: there will be a new race of animals in AC 3DS: fish!

This might be the one thing to convince me to get a 3DS...

Loving the fact that finally you can swim too as that always used to be a bit annoying!

I was all ready to post "I don't want another Animal Crossing" and then I saw Bunnie in one of those screenshots, went "aww, Bunnie," and it turns out that I do want it.

Bloody Nintendo.

I really really want this to be good.
Not just another GC/DS AC in 3D.

The game needs more areas to travel to.
Also online needs to be better implemented. The DS version when I played it was always crashing when trying to travel to your friends towns.

They should implement NES games again like they did on the gamecube animal crossing.

I feel like I'm starting to turn into some Nintendo hating troll like Judgement Boy, but ... come on. They were already taking the piss when the Wii version was the same as the DS version.

I absolutely adored the DS Animal Crossing, quite literally robbed me of hours every day (I was a student back then) but this just looks atrocious. Admittedly a difficult sell with trailers but I'll generously describes its looks as a third-rate PSP game and while there isn't a tremendous amount they could do with the formula, what appears to be absolutely nowt disappoints. Very amused at the Link bit, I imagine to confuse stupid people into believing there's an element of interactivity with objects when we all know he's just going to push it back and forth, maybe turn it a bit.

Lovely

Never played City Folk, and there seem to be enough upgrades from Wild World to warrant a purchase. (The gf won't be happy though... )

It would be nice it it was a significant upgrade but I think every iteration of Animal Crossing has been worse than the last with the Gamecube version still being the best of all with the NES games even if it did have a hugely unwieldy password system to transfer items.

I agree, and furthermore Animal Crossing is one of Nintendo's own series that really needs to be have a break from the sequel-churn to have its game design rebuilt from scratch.

Or you could just play Ocarina of Time and live in a Zelda themed world!

Seriously I loved Animal Crossing on the Cube but this needs a lot more to tempt me. Plus....there's something very uncanny valley about those shots.

I'm kind of surprised given the milking Nintendo do with Mario and Pokemon that we haven't seen Harvest Moon:Life in Hyrule Edition yet.

This game could be all sorts of awesome with street pass.

I remember playing the US GC version every day for a year solid. Went on holiday only to come back and find my next door neighbor had left and the place was overgrown with weeds. It was heartbreaking so I never played it again. :(

I had a very similar story with my GC version. I played it every day for over a year, only to go to a festival for a weekend and find out when I returened that Bones, the loveable, accident-prone dog had moved away. :( I never really got back into it again.

To those Animal Crossing fans, I just would like them to know that there’s progress and we should be able to offer a new download movie soon. As for features and specs of the game, I can’t go into too much detail, but players will be able to arrange their furniture the way they like, and we’ll be offering new networking experiences.

I failed to see the "news" in that article earlier. I'm hoping for something good from this game and looking forward to it - after being a huge fan of the first DS outing. Here's hoping future announcements are a little more inspired.

It is a bit of a waste. You could forgive Wild World for being similar to the Cube version, because a) it seemed to be a perfect fit for handheld play and b) the DS wasn't as powerful as the Cube. But the Wii game, as fun as the core Animal Crossing mechanics still are, pretty much evaporated any goodwill towards the series, because it simply didn't move the series forward AT ALL. It's probably the laziest sequel Nintendo's ever done. My wife and son have started playing it since it was released on the Nintendo Selects range, but I used to love it too, and just doing exactly the same things as I've done in the previous two has lost its appeal.

Hopefully the online/StreetPass/SpotPass ideas freshen it up a bit, but we need a complete overhaul of items, and a far greater range of things to do. If it's just the same bugs and fish as the last three I'm not sure I'll bother.

(Of course I'll bother. But I'll feel angry with myself for doing so.)

Animal Crossing has so much potential, it's such a shame it's not even keeping up with the level of progress in each new Pokemon game!

If you havent played AC since the gamecube Id say its worth it.

I still play Lets go to the city! frequently, instead of Wild World, as theyre so similar. Paying down on the mortgage, bigger house, stuff to do etc.

The thing that really bugs me with the Wii version is that if you dont have any friends that play it, the Auction House in the city is always empty and useless. Some kind of public Auction House, like how Mario Kart Wii sorted the online stuff, would make a huge difference. In addition, Nintendo could place some mega-rare items on there that players could bid on, and feel like they have something unique in the gameworld.

It's a bit of a shame, as Animal Crossing could be one of the biggest online phenomenons of our time. I really liked Wild World on the DS, as it was my first Animal Crossing. But once you run out of things to do and the interaction with others is so limited, it just gets stale. Just imagine what the game could be like if all the different towns of players were connected online and you could walk through them and you could interact and trade stuff (maybe after giving permission or something to keep the griefers out), it would be totally amazing.

It would. And yeah it has massive potential. I'm in a bit of a grrr mood tonight so I'm getting a Nintendo LOL feeling going on. They are really annoying me today (normally I don't really care).

They have, IMO, almost limitless potential for being great: the best franchises and most memorable characters in gaming, loads of money, years and years of experience, very talented employees and on and on.

But they just do not get online. They really don't. Why is a good question, a Japanese thing, stubbornness or just a genuine lack of love/understanding of the net.

Anima Crossing has since day one been probably the most obvious candidate of all their IP's for something that would work really well online. But they piss it away and the best they can come up with is another silly and underused peripheral, Wii Speak.

I know their usual excuse is "THE CHILDREN, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN" but if they really wanted to they could make a system which would be "safe" and good.

There are no doubt loads of reasons why they haven't. Not enough money to be made of online, internal politics, incompetence. Whatever basically. But as a consumer it really is baffling.
