The public beta is only open for PS+ subscribers and private beta participants to begin with. Here's how it'll work as detailed on http://blog.eu.playstation.com/

Who gets in and when?

As we move forward we’ll invite more and more players into the mix.

  • January 18: All PlayStation Plus subscribers and all Private Beta participants (who haven’t erased their original Beta files)
  • February 1st: UNCHARTED 3 guys, you will receive an email on how to access the beta. In order to get this email you’ll have had to redeemed your Online Network Pass found inside the boxed copy and made sure you’ve opted into receiving marketing emails.
  • February 22: Everyone with a PlayStation Network account…in other words, everyone who wants in, gets in!

Where on earth is the option to opt in for marketing ? Need to take a look and try and find that option then.

Hmmm it's seems OK. A bit scrappy really. There isn't much team work going on which works against the concept.

This is out soon. Anyone know if it has an online pass as I want to know whether to scrap it from my Lovefilm list or not.

Anyone know if it has an online pass as I want to know whether to scrap it from my Lovefilm list or not.

As with other Sony published titles, it does have an online pass. It's possible you'd still be able to play the co-op mode locally, but much like Battlefield 3 this is really about the multiplayer.

Seeing as the game's out this Friday I thought the thread deserved a bump. Whilst you'd be hard pressed to know the game existed — there wasn't so much as a place holder box in GAME earlier — I think people should be aware of its impending release even if Sony don't. As such here's the launch trailer:

Could do with some decent multiplayer footage, really, but I don't have any on hand; I was watching a good MLG stream last night, but there doesn't seem to be an archived version.

Speaking of multiplayer, it's been announced that all Starhawk map packs are going to be free. The community for its predecessor ended up pretty fractured due to the DLC packs, so it's good to know that won't be an issue this time around.

For those interested, the cheapest pre-order I've seen is HMV, using the code "Z1STARHAWK" to knock £5 off the price; you also get a pre-order DLC pack. The game is due to launch on PSN this Friday if you'd prefer, but I'll be surprised if a digital copy won't set you back more than a disc.

Surprised people aren't more excited about it! Wasn't that keen on the beta but I still really want it! Must exude patience and not pay full price, though.

Bah, Sony don't really seem to get the concept, most publishers offer a trial period before locking you out, that way people can try the MP for a while and maybe they'll like it and go on to buy a new copy.

This review is full of convincing hyperbole! Enough to be making me trade in a bunch of games on Amazon so I can day one it!

Shopto have taken my money for this, should have it by Thursday. Such a big fan of Warhawk, I hope this lives up to that.

This is already sold out on Amazon, and I have Amazon credit to order it with! NoooooOOOo! I assume Amazon didn't get very many copies in. A worrying and surprising lack of interest in this.

Picked this up today although I found it hard to pick up a copy. Game hadn't got it in? PS3 or Xbox. The retail specialists?!

Really impressed with it. Slick as a buttery eel and looks gorgeous with a superb colour palette and super detailed environment.

Played a few hours of the single player campaign that effectively works as an extended tutorial introducing all the vehicles and kit you can call down into your game. Feels like Firefly westerny/sci-fi mixed with Borderlands in style. Motion comic mid mission interludes that are well done. All the controls are super honed which is what you would expect after Warhawk and the weapons feel meaty.

Played a few multiplayer games one being a Starhawk dogfight which brought back memories of Crimson Skies and a big team battle on a space station. Really cool dropping into the map in an escape pod then calling down base/weapon/vehicle elements down onto the game map like an RTS. The Halo style warthog controlled well and the Darth Maul speeder bike feels great zipping along the desert levels.

It's obvious there's a lot of work and detail gone into this and one of the most ambitious MP games I've played in a while.

Put this on last night and was really not fussed with the story or cut scenes. Was very underwhelmed with the enemies and the feeling that i had seen it all before and played it all before a million times was sinking in.

But there is something really rather great about it, as it reveals itself, its very 3d command and conquer and the single player is a great tutorial into the meat and potatoes of multiplayer, every level of the campaign offers you new building options, weapons, and defences.

Everything works really well, weapons feel weighty and dynamic and the ground and air combat equally as fun and deep.

Was bored and looking for something new and thought this would be flip fodder for max payne 3 at first glance but I am pleasantly surprised on the potential this has.

Its no BF3 Killer but it has a great strategy feel balanced with great action.

Rented this not realising it needed an online pass.

Went for a quick blast on Fri, was greeted with a 500mb update. After an hour, still no joy and had to go out.

Had a quick blast on SP, but I'm thinking there's kind of no point as it's really a MP game. Bah. Not buying it just to try MP so no thanks Sony.

Ouch. Came in at no. 17 on the UK charts. Very strange that this has fallen well under the radar.

Really enjoying the single player. Haven't jumped online yet, but it's a slick mash up of some of my favourite genres. Space combat, Tower Defence and 3rd Person Shooter. It also reminds me a bit of Battlefront.

If this has a single player worth playing then it's going back on the list. That trailer looks pretty amazing.

Lots of people moan saying the single player is just a tutorial. It takes you to different combat "arenas" really. Where you use the tower defence, dogfighting and third person shooting to fend off enemies or protect generators etc. it's just that the combat mechanics are so satisfying, I find it a joy.

You won't find much to the story/ characters, it's more set up like a tower defence game. Except you are there, on the ground battling. Had some great dog fighting sections, too.

No denying the meat of the game will be in Multi but single player is certainly an extremely fun way to learn the ropes.

I don't think there's story co op but there is co op splitscreen for "horde/ firefight" type play and full, online splitscreen.

The Hawks are sensational to fly about in. Amazing sound design, too.

If only there were more people here playing, we could make a clan!
