Or, hard freeze when it hits any projectile in the game except another Rolento knife.

Just watched a video of this happening. What an absolutely ridiculous thing. A more severe bug than any of the ones they fixed, too.

It sounds like a lot of the changes were quite significant, particularly taking away the re-stand after a tag; won't that affect the BnB tags of some characters? Or am I misunderstanding that? I never really used any re-stand stuff anyway, since my Street Fighter mind can't comprehend that I can hit people off those ground bounces.

Is Diablo III a big deal then? Everyone in the world is going on about it all of a sudden. Is it a game about forming arguments for and against always-online DRM? Because that's what it seems like.

It's a game about sending Jonster congratulatory messages a lot since he seems pretty good, because I don't know anybody else who has it.

Battle tag is imp#2809 if any of you lovely SF types are playing.

Haha, holy shit. How will tourney organisers stop that from happening. Not like Rolento is an unpopular character.

Pretty amazing, really, just how badly they've fucked up on this game.

Still, lots of people gonna troll with that I bet.

Diablo is being played semi-regularly in the office. It just sounds like a lot of clicking to me, to be honest, but it looks quite nice.

Bingo. Pretty severe, I think.

Shit's too funny. I am actually starting to feel sorry for them now.

Perhaps Hegg, Donut or one of the other dev-bods in here can explain how a few changes to frame data, pushback etc can result in a bug like that being created?

I kind of feel for them. I have to code stuff sometimes, and unless you're some kind of computer psychic it's almost impossible to know how messing with one bit of code can change another. I only do really simple low-level mathematical stuff compared to game code, but fuck me computers are stupid. And something like this is quite subtle, really.

Be interesting to see if it affects say WNF.

The mayor is right, but coders are also guilty of CTRL+C CTRL+V :)

It does beg the question though, where the testing department given enough time to test all the fixes. Was the bug seen once and couldn't be replicated again so slipped through, was the patch tested by coders or QA, etc

Basically it looks like a lot went into the patch and enough time wasn't given to testing and it was rushed out.

It could be bad architecture. Good code will allow you to make changes to one area without affecting + needing to recompile another. I'd have thought they'd only really be changing values like Nate suggests but it seems as though they've hacked together something else. Mind you, if a bug is deeply routed in your engine then hacking fixes is your best shot anyway :(. The secret is all in building a reliable, solid engine in the first place but that's easier said than done!

Which is why good testing is so important and testing that isn't done by programmers.

Given how quickly they've been rushing patches out, bar the most obvious in game tests, and microsoft's certification nonsense I'd imagine they really don't have the time to look for absolutely everything. I wonder if the same thing happens with ibuki's kunai. Anyone want to test that out?

I seem to remember them saying early on that they had to be careful with patches because there was always the danger of something else being broken. I mean, that applies to everyone, but doesn't this run on MT Framework, which they all ought to be pretty familiar with? They never did anything like this with SFIV, did they?

There were some post AE2012 bugs, like juri teleporting through people when using certain normals. I'm going to guess that the severity of the glitches that any patch introduces are probably somewhat random and hard to predict. This is a nasty one though.

Maybe that statement was a bit of damage control for this patch, because they'd already completed it and had it signed off, but were aware of that Rolento one making it through before they officially announced it?

Still what ever the reason, it really isn't going to help the image of this game.

The DLC fiasco and the glitches really aren't going to help retain players. I imagine, if Capcom don't get it sorted sharpish, punters will just drift away back to AE or other games.

Anyway since SFxT is broken :P has it been mentioned that you can vote for which characters you would like to appear in TxSF on their farcebook page.

Luckly you don't need to log in link: http://www.facebook....277842658952235

I voted for

Alex, Kuma, Panda, Roger Jr. and Yoshimitsu
and
Dan, Elf, R. Mika, Sean and Eagle

Currently the two characters who have the least votes from each franchise are Ganryu and Rufus.

I genuinely have no idea how rufus would work in txsf. The big fat shambling obese mess. I think the tekken guys have the harder job, bringing the sf mans into 3d, given that zoning in tekken is non-existant, comparitively.

Anyway why am I even posting in this thread since I've gone back to AE full time in heggfest prep.

I'd say they've only announced changes to frame data etc, but have probably done a whole raft of fixes under the bonnet which the end user probably wouldn't notice. One of these is likely to have caused the bug.

Not every change is announced.

Anyway. tsk, silly Capcom.

AE had that small update after the 2012 patch, but there was nothing game breaking going on there.

Wonderful glitch! Very Amiga.

Anyone want to buy my barely touched SFxT guide off of me? Think I paid about 8 or 9 quid for it off of Amazon and would be happy with something around that area plus a quid or so for postage.

Let me know. :)

Fix incomming

Capcom will fix the high-profile Street Fighter x Tekken game breaking bug in the middle of June, it's announced.

The bug, which emerged following the release of the latest patch, causes a game freeze whenever any knife attack touches a fireball, forcing a restart.

Today Capcom apologised for the glitch and vowed to fix it.

"As many of you are likely aware, a game-breaking glitch was discovered in SFxT following the 1.04 update - generally speaking, anytime knife-like projectiles (Ibuki, Cody, Rolento etc) collide with fireballs (Ryu, Chun Li etc), the game will crash," Capcom said in a blog post on Capcom Unity.

"We have word today the dev team is hard at work investigating the issue, and plans to have a patch available soon."

A statement from SFxT designer Tomoaki Ayano was also released.

"As many of you are aware, a game breaking glitch has appeared in Street Fighter X Tekken after the release of the 1.04 update. The development team is currently examining the problem and planning to patch the game as quickly as possible. The patch to fix the glitch should be released by mid-June.

"We truly apologize for this problem, and hope everyone will be patient until the patch is released. Thank you very much."

Hello. Someone linked to this wild post on a naruto forum, of all places. I have no idea if there's any truth to it or not so take it with at least one single grain of salt, more to taste.

Not happy at the massive on disc DLC of Street Fighter x Tekken?

Neither is Capcom apparently.

This is copy pasta from a deleted thread over at Capcom Europe, by the way:

Taken from an employee of Capcom UK. No one wants to go public because Capcom are really fucking furious about SF X T in general and they don't want to piss off Sony either (Even though they are really mad).

But the sequence is apparently

- Capcom sees progress on the game is not good around the 70% milestone. Too far to can the game and they need it finished to return the investment. Tells Ono to scale it back so it can be finished without incident or Delay to hit their Financial year

- Ono wants his team moved on as soon as possible because he wants to be done with it as well and tells them to do the DLC now, have it finished so they can move onto what is assumed to be Darkstalkers 4 so they can work on that to full capacity. So they finish the characters so they can be released as needed

- Capcom sees they have 12 characters in the bank and inks the deal with Sony since it's a good selling point for the Vita and Sony pays big bucks for exclusives

- Soon after the team gets the compatability patch ready to cert early only to find that Sony has completely blocked them. Sony says absolutely no compatibility patches at all (remember the Super SF4 costumes?). Capcom pitches a fit because they signed the exclusive and they know what happened last time with MvC3 when they did on disc DLC. Microsoft OK's all the patches but with the fee of £500,000 for the big 12 character pack.

- Capcom and Ono decide it's not worth fighting Sony or paying Microsoft and just ship it with everything on the disc so it can be certified later on because they want rid of it and for it to be over with.

- Game comes out, Fiasco happens when it's easily hacked and Capcom takes all the brunt of everything. Capcom are pissed because their public image took a blow because Sony were being whiny bitches about some bandwith

Also they wouldn't have been finished on time before the game went into content complete status. The dev cycle was far too short and allegedly really badly managed. So Capcom kept working on them till they were finished while they were still in full production while working on the final push for QA and certification. They were done before the game went gold and were being prepared for a patch to be certified till Sony said no. The patch was just dumped onto the disc with the rest of the game which would be unlocked with a key after the Vita release.

Every publisher does the same. EA's Battlefield 3 exclusive pretty much strongarmed Sony into it because they pretty much said "We do what we like or we release on 360 first".

Where Capcom fucked up is that they signed the exclusive with Sony and let Sony dictate the terms of the deal. They had nothing to bargain with on the 360 version because the characters were exclusive to the PSV version so Sony were able to bully them into no compatibility patch and putting the DLC on the disc.

Capcom were fucking dumb and the cash grab caught them out when they had to play by Sony's terms. Now they are probably going to lose even more money on SFxT due to how stupid they were.

Wondering why 360 is getting exclusive DLC for Operation Raccoon City and why its version of Dragon's Dogma is getting the DLC first?

There's your answer.

Page six? Ooof. Is this game dead to us? I've actually not even played it since before the game-breaking update, because of Max Payne 3 and Dark Souls and good old SSFIV.

Anyway; didn't Capcom say they had "special" SFxT announcements to make at E3? What were they then? Just the Vita control method stuff? Or was it just the fact the patch to fix the game-freezing bug is coming on June 14th?
