Save the forum!

98 posts in this topic

The time has come to save the forum. We need you, and we need your money.

We'd like you all to become Members of the Rllmuk Supporters' Club. The subscription fee is £10 a year. This will entitle you to a package of benefits, and more importantly buy you one share in the Industrial & Provident Society which will make you a legal member of the club that will own the forum. Legal members will have the right to vote for a President and the Committee, and have a say in how the forum will be run.

In order for the subscription fees to cover running costs in the future, we also need donations to buy a server and to get us started. We need you to dig deep. I'd hope that to start things off many of you can find an additional £10 or £20 on top of your subscription. For the people who have good jobs and money to spare, £50 would help set us up really nicely. Give whatever you can. I'll be nagging many of you personally for the money over the next few days. Send us your money! (Please!)

Xevious, our Treasurer, has the full details of how to join and donate

If you want to know more about what's going on, look at the FAQ

We've been making good progress.

We have a clear technical plan.

We have a clear financial plan.

The FSA and Co-operatives UK are looking on our application favourably

All the volunteers are working really hard to secure the future of the forum.

Join us! Save the forum! Thank you!

I'd love to, but I simply cannot afford it at the moment. Will gladly chip in when I can, though.

I paid for super membership this year, but would be more than happy to contribute.

Yes, Rob has that money and he used it for the upkeep of the forum.

He's giving the supporter's club the forum for free, but we all need to fund it now if it's going to survive.

Thanks everyone.

Thank you.

No problem, just annoying I can't send it sooner. I love this place, so have no qualms whatsoever in helping out when I can.

Good luck with the campaign!

IMPORTANT QUESTIONS

  1. How many people do you reckon will need to pay a tenner to safely say the forum is saved?
  2. If we don't succeed financially, what will happen then?
  3. Is there a deadline?
  4. Will the forum get a name change?

I'll have to try again tomorrow. I have tried twice now to send the cash through my online banking thing, but it says the "service is down"

Deffo, come pay day. Being paid monthly sucks cock ;)

I don't think you'll be alone there - and I'd advise a BIG push for this around the 29th/30th/31st tbh :P

Meanwhile I'm off to see if I've anything left in the warchest :D

Yeah, that's kinda standard. You trying being a contractor / freelancer, where you might have to wait three months or more to be paid.

In fact, I know a few people who've been doing freelance work for a certain gaming media outlet. They haven't been paid for their efforts in over seven months and in some case nine. Complete obfuscation and two-faced dealings by the senior staff members who are too spineless to cause a fuss or rock the boat about this, in case they lose their jobs.

But back on topic: I'd chip in. Payments by PayPal okay?

I've gifted it via Paypal so Tim should receive 11 quid (at least that whats it says).

Most of this is answered in the threads in A&F

Deadline is Nov

No name change

I'm there when I get paid.

Bit tight for money this month (even after I get paid) but I should be able to pay the minimum and will definitely pay more in the future too.

It seems the Dutchies have already claimed their piece of ownership then. Can we go round insulting people yet?

Xevious can give you all the figures in our budget, if they're not posted in the thread already.

The results of my survey indicate that this appeal will generate enough money. If people for some reason don't give us any money, then we wouldn't continue, and Rob would switch the forum off at the end of November. Once we've bought a server, we should have enough members to keep going indefinitely, but if it became clear to the committee that the forum was no longer viable, they'd be obliged to shut it all down, and then the procedures outlined in the Rules would be carried out.

The deadline for us is that we need to move servers by the end of November. That means we need to buy a server any day now. Time is of the essence. There's no deadline for joining, I'd expect a trickle of new members would continue to join through the year.

We're keeping the name. In theory, the members could decide to change it down the line, but I'd imagine this would be unlikely.
