i finally "got" Illmatic this morning listening to "One Time 4 Your Mind". i'm really liking early 90s rap right now. someone played Eminem's first album to me a little while ago and it's my favourite of his stuff now.

yeah, I've been a huge fan of both for years. Wu-tang especially are my favourite "band" in music, period, if you include the solo stuff.

Have your tried 90s stuff like:
-Big L - Lifestylez Ov Da Poor and Dangerous
-Mobb Deep - The Infamous
-Dj Muggs Presents the Soul Assassins Chapter 1
-Hyenas in the Desert - Die Laughing
-Pharoahe Monch - Internal Affairs
-Chino XL - Here to Save You All
-Kool G Rap - 4,5,6
-Show&AG - Full Scale LP
-Sway & King Tech - This or That
-Westside Connection - Bow Down
-The Dwellas (or: Cella Dwellas) - The Last Shall be First (late 90s, as in released in 2000 but you'll like it)
-Jedi Mind Tricks - Violent by Design (didn't come out in the 90s but I guarantee you'll fucking love this if you like the 90s sound!)

Some samples of my selection:

The beats on it were amazing, if I remember correctly, Did the rapper ever go on to do anything else as he was pretty decent too.

Yeah, we definitely need to hear more. Action is killing it right now, he's ridiculous. That track he did with Riff Raff is still fucking me up, even though y'all cats round here never really showed it much love when I posted it. I'd say it's my track of the year so far:

I listen to it all the time.

IN THE MORNING DO KARATE IN THE WATER.

Action aside, we could also do with some more Roc Marcy this year.

I saw that he is supposed to be doing an album with Ka, whose album Grief Pedigree I recommend if you like Marcberg:

Cool, I ain't heard that. Ill track there, though. I'll check the album.

Just saw that Action is coming up to Glasgow on Monday 7th April, boom. Heads are gonna lose their shit when he spits that line on 'Cirque du Soleil' about having the heart of a lion with the strength outta Glasgow 8)

I just wish he had not made some of the awful music on his second album, Life after Death must have more filler than any album ever,

Ready To Die though was just fucking awesome.

What tracks do you consider filler?

I think it has the least filler of any double CD hip hop album.

Yeah I would probably agree with Ash on this. And after all, if you were also an old Bone thug fan (kind of) like I was (kind of), then Notorious thugs pretty much gave you everything you could ever want. Bone should have retired at the precise moment this track came out, *sigh* if only they did....
