Aww man you've brought back some great memories of Soldier Of Fortune 2. Loved that game to death (still do). Had some great times online as well. Really wish Activision had let Raven develop the third one rather than their no name shitey budget developers.

POPULAR

Was being too harsh on MP2 there. It's not shit at all. I just don't like it nearly as much as MP1. It's still a fine game. I ought to get back to it and finish it, actually.

Had a lovely surprise today - some kind soul from R* has sent me a whole load of Max Payne 3 swag - t-shirts, stickers, badges etc!

He said it was to mark my success in avoiding prison. What an awesome thing to do, i'm dead chuffed.

Yeah I'm kinda suprised they're even bothering with a multiplayer element tbh. I can see how it might be ok and obviously multiplayer is sort of expected in every big title now and Rockstar will undoubtedly make it work but I'd rather they just went with a pure singleplayer experience.

The embargo for the press hands-on is today. First one I have seen:

http://www.computera...ands-on/?page=1

Once you're actually in control in Max Payne 3, the experience is mind-blowing.

Another one:

I have written this final summary paragraph about twenty times with numerous platitudes and recommendations for the game but they never seem to convey my enthusiasm for the title so I will just say this:
Max Payne 3: F*ck yeah!

EDIT: late to the party!

In fact, it might just be the best action movie ever made. And you get to play it.

:omg:

Guardian artile is a particularly good read, but the Destructoid is another good one.

It seemed like the Max Payne series was being more or less 'Rockstarized,' and since the series is a highly stylized -- and more importantly, a unique -- experience, I was concerned that Max Payne 3 wouldn't retain the same awesome noir character that made the earlier titles in the series such singular endeavors.
Then I actually got my hands on the controller for some extended playtime.

Cue a massive rave of a preview. Told you guys it would deliver! :D

As long as this is as good as it sounds from the previews (and I can be very dubious of the games press) we should be in for some good times.

Could you imagine though if they incorporated all this into GTAV ? Maybe even an unlockable slow mo mode.... :omg:

I just want five minutes with the controller. I can't judge a Rockstar game until it's in my hands and I can see how responsive it is. I really want this to be good (i've already pre-ordered it from Tesco) but remember how good the previews were for LA Noire? Rockstar seem to be critic proof at the moment. Give us a demo Rockstar and prove me wrong !!!

Top of the list now, looks very promising. Like Red Dead Redemption set in modern times, with super-smooth flowing shootery mechanics.

This is true most of the time of myself, but even moreso when it comes to Rockstar titles. Sometimes its justified, like with Red Dead, but the same gushing praise was heaped all over GTA4 in previews, and while i enjoyed that game, it was billed as the ultimate marriage of cinema and gaming, but tbh i dont think you'd find anyone who'd agree with those sentiments now. I think the press really seem to go off the deep end with the gushing praise whenever a R* title is involved.

See, I'm the other way round. I believe in the good of things until proven otherwise. So far, there isn't anything here that has me in doubt. This is not an open world game, which are often not as tight (mechanically) as lineair games. This is also not L.A. Noire, which was not developed by Rockstar.
This is a lineair shooter, what they need to nail is the shooting aspect. So you can bet your ass that's the thing they focussed on when it comes to the gameplay.

Videos look awesome, Remedy say it's fantastic, press loves it.... all signs point to best action game of the year.

So what if the slow-mo is too superhero in Max Payne 2. I thought the narrative was tighter, the shooting was better, and frankly, I found it to be a ridiculous amount of fun. I managed to make it through the construction level as Mona on Hard Boiled without taking a single bullet. That's how much I played the thing.

LOL

MP2 is a shadow of it's former greatness.

Interesting that note that Max Payne 3 is clearly taking the first game as the starting point for inspiration.

well yeah, obviously Max Payne 3 clearly uses the first game for inspiration by taking fuck all from it.

It's using MP1-style bullet time. No spinny reloads either. Thats what i meant.

Tighter narrative? I cant even remember the plot to MP2, whereas the original has a great, pulpy storyline.

Nor me but I've just checked out the first couple of songs I saw on Youtube. Pleasant little ditties. Remind me of Death In Vegas.
