That is really, really good :)

edit: Grabbed the album (Fin) off iTunes, so far I'm loving the back half, not so sure about the first half. But then it is a "proper" album so it might take a few listens for me to get my head around it.

Just found out that Dopplereffekt is/are playing the Glue Factory in Glasgow tomorrow night :omg: :omg: :omg:
[/quote]

Fuck me, was this amazing. Absolutely incredible. I'd heard that Dopplereffekt's live show doesn't tend to explore the retro throwback 80's Detroit sound typical of their/his electro output in the 1990's, focusing instead on beatless, ambient soundscapes, so that's what I was expecting. But he's switched it up since his last notorious appearance in Glasgow, because this was all Juan Atkins-infused electronic darkness. Absolutely sensational. Apocalyptic stuff. Loved it. What's more, Gerald Donald himself was just stoating around the bar area before the gig. Brilliant.

Really liked the Booka Shade edit that Mark Knight did a few weeks back, so tried to recreate it using the originals and his live recorded version.

Surprised you thought that, Cal. I think his influences are really interesting and they generally work over the album. It's like a weird mix of Hacienda acid house, prog rock with some live sounding drums. It's nowhere near as good as his last proper alum but it does get better the more you listen to it.

I just found it a complete and utter mess. He threw everything at it to see what would stick, and he didn't come up with a single memorable moment. He can do better. This is nowhere near the class of his other output. I just want to know what the fuck he was smoking when he slapped this shit together.

The ignorance is astounding... As much as I'm not a fan of the people being discussed this is still amazing.

Love this. Reminds me a bit of this in a kind of authentic rave revivalist way.

That new Lone track is ace - most exciting thing I've heard for a while actually. Really looking forward to his album, even though I said I was getting bored of his sound when Echolocations came out last year!

It was one of the best things I've ever seen. It was Gerald up on stage, standing side-on to the audience, facing his female assistant, the pair of them playing banks of keyboards, wearing all black face masks, in almost perfect silhouette in front of a MASSIVE stage-wide screen, showing old stock footage of scientists conducting experiments in their laboratories and all that good stuff. Fucking amazing.

As for the Infophysix, I love that 'Plastiphilia' track, about wanting to fuck mannequins. Brilliant stuff. I love everything about the Dopplereffekt project. Great image, great mystique, great sounds.

EDIT: Sorry, 'Plastiphilia' was actually on the Gesamtkunstwerk compilation.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qh7hFQH7mok

I love the old electro throwback stuff more than the later ambient stuff, but I think my all time favourite Dopplereffekt track comes under the post-2000 ambient umbrella, and it's this piece of gorgeousness and gorgeousity:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIMv2CY32Bk

Throwing it in with the Hulk footage, because Doc Dave Banner in the lab wasn't miles off the visuals at the gig.

I just found out that Shem McAuley, who was Slacker, died in Thailand last month. He had a really distinctive sound and was responsible for some classic prog house stuff

I've always loved Justin Faust's work and this re-work is no different... It is so damn good.
