Far too reminiscent of the melody of Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel by Tavares to get any props from me. R Kelly has many amazing tunes...that's not one of them. I'd be interested to see what else he comes up with if he's exploring a New England disco sound though!

I've just come across an artist called Adrian Younge, a hip hop producer who got fed up with samples so learned to play the original instruments to get the vintage soul sound he was looking for. He then went on to record the soundtrack for the film Black Dynamite and from the success of that has recorded his own album for Wax Poetics, which can be listened to here:

And a sampler EP can be downloaded for free from here:

Here's a frothy little number from 1984 that I'm partial to:

I don't think so. I've been looking for some more of his stuff and it's mostly future garage kind of fare. Hopefully he'll get a good response and stick to this type of production as it's far superior in my opinion. When I next bump into him I'll have a word!

Just heard this on the radio and I am nuts for it, lovely UK swish on an Eighties soul sound, commercial as hell and all the better for it. Solid, solid production, and the vocals are toot sweet mays amees!

I just love her voice. She's on a couple of really great SBTRKT tracks. Lovely to hear some slowed down Julio Bashmore production too. His sound really suits that tempo and it's fantastic to hear a bit of a wailing guitar solo too. It's been way too long.

Amazing, isn't it? What's SBTRKT?

One of these new fangled electronic artists. His eponymous LP is on Spotify and I reckon you might just like it.

I might have posted this before and it's now buried deep in the archives of this thread, like the ark in Indiana Jones which would be a shame.

I can't listen to Loran's Dance without wanting to smoke an entire jungle. One of my most smokable tunes for sure. That and this:

You smoke with me, these tunes get Youtubed.

Hang on, Change of Heart by Change has Paisley Park connections? How come I didn't know? I may have to return to my Fortress of Solitude to ruminate upon this development.

While I'm gone, check out this slice of crazy Jap rare groove, it's bonkers and amazing.

HOT MIX ALERT! Softly Shafted Mixed By Hotthobo

http://soundcloud.com/hotthobo/softly-shafted-mixed-by

Best mix I've heard for ages, possibly even better than that Oliver mix, which I loved. Full of lovely boogie and electro-soul jams. Already played it 3 or 4 times today. Just too many good tracks in it - and the only one I'm really familiar with was Take Me To The Top by Advance.

Tracklist:

1. Junei – Let’s Ride (Pharoahs)

2. First Love – It’s A Mystery To Me (Chycago International Music)

3. Kadenza – Let’s Do It (PRT)

4. Geno Jordan – You’re A Peachtree Freak On A Peachtree Street Part III (PPU)

5. Ocie III – Return On Love (Chycago International Music/Boogie Times)

6. Jady Kurrent Band – Standing There (Starstream)

7. Silk, Satin & Lace – Always (Sunrise Productions)

8. Dr. Togo – Be Free (Derby)

9. Gianni Riso – Disco Shy (Goody Music)

10. Advance – Take It To The Top (X Energy)

11. Delegation – Darlin’ I Think About You (Ariola)

12. Jewel – Paradise (Lotus Land)

13. J Parker Band – Live Lady (Tenya)

14. Ish – Don’t Stop (TK Disco)

15. Tom Hooker – Talk With Your Body (Fulltime)

16. Evo – Din Don (Cultura & Musica)

17. Fonzi Thornton – Beverly (RCA)

18. Alfreda James & Billy Ray – Back To Love (Rappers Rapp Disco Co)

19. Windjammer – I Thought It Was You (MCA)

20. Toney Lee – Love So Deep (Instrumental) (Radar)

21. Wind Chymes – Baby Your The One (Lotus Land)

Couple of heavy hitters for you via DJ Harvey's Resident Advisor Exchange and RA 300 podcasts.

Aura - Last Stop

This is only half the track! Proper rawkus 4/4 funk epic. Check the flip-side

for more of the same.

Blood Hollins - Don't Give Up

There's an extended 12" mix also on Youtube if you want another 6 minutes of this.
