Has the NDA been lifted? If so anyone here got anything they'd like to say because i'm quite interested in this at the moment.

I think the NDA is still in place so this thread should be dead, in theory ;] From the way the email is worded, assuming you login on Saturday, your beta account will stay active.

If it's just for the day, then don't give it the time. Seriously, it won't be worth it. You'll spend a night downloading it, 3 hours connecting and get to play the game for an hour - for which it'll be a buggy mess.

The stress test lasts for one day, but the beta will be ongoing after that. If you don't join up on Saturday though, you won't be able to take part in the beta.

Fileplanets utter fucking wank. If this is indicitive of the kind of thinking codies have about MMO's then they can fuck off.

Sod the beta, I'll wait for the full game. I can't be bothered to mess about with FilePlanet and I think it sucks that they've forced everyone to suscribe to get the download :)

Fileplanet is shit, I left my download going over night only to find in the morning I had actually gone up in the queue. However, finally managed to snag it and I'll be giving it a go today, but in all honesty I'm fully expecting it to be crap, WoW really does seem to have the MMO market sewn up at the moment and until a developer tries something radically different, I don't see things changing any time soon.

The fact they're using summat as shit as fileplanet (amongst other things that set bells ringing) says to me that they don't really know what they're doing.

I gave in a couple of days ago and just paid FP for a month's subscription. Their member downloads are actually really fast, but it's kind of laughable that we basically have to pay to play a free beta.

Not yet.

Bodes well if their website can't handle a few thousand people.

I've got as far as submitting my beta subscription, but it's been stuck there for ages now. My brother has got passed that, but he's been "logging in" to the world for about half an hour now. I take it this means the "stress test" isn't going too well. ;)

I know they need to beta things to test if they work or not. But they only sent out a few thousand beta keys, and not all of them would have been used. It really is quite hopeless.

I know WoW suffered in the same way, and I remember struggling to get online on launch day, but I managed it, and that was with hundreds of thousands trying at the same time.

I expect it to be slow and sluggish, but to not even be able to get an account set up, let alone launching the game is quite laughable.

I think the Burning Crusade will kill any hope of me trying this.

Well, I eventually managed to subscribe. Now I'm stuck trying to connect to the server. Amazing scenes.

Why did they email out the beta keys earlier in the week yet only let people sign up on the day of the stress test? It's bloody stupid. It amazes me time and again how inept these big developers can be.

I've been trying on and off all day, but it looks like the server's having none of it. I thought I'd check the forums to see what's going on, but it seems we're breaking the NDA just talking about the beta here, or indeed anywhere outside the beta forum. Of course, I can't sign up on the Codemasters site to get into that, because the server's being pushed to its pathetic limit.

What a farce. I wouldn't be surprised if half the beta testers just gave up and played WoW.

Because if you sign in and play between 12 pm today 13/01) and tomorrow (14/01) you get into beta afterwards but if you don't sign in you don't get in at all.

They put me right off this from the word 'fileplanet'. I think I'll stick to PSU for now.

To be fair to them, problems like this are pretty much the whole point of a beta, and more specifically a stress test. If your code, or your servers aren't up to the task, it's better to find that out now, rather than on release. The beta's apparently been more stable than most up until now, and the nice chaps at Turbine will continue to push back the beta log-in deadline if these problems persist. It's already been stretched to midnight tonight.
