Posting this here as it seems to be the goto thread for PC gaming. Gamersgate sale has Painkiller Complete for £4 just for today. I've heard the later ones are by a different developer and not as good as the original but for that price you can't go wrong.

There's some quite exciting Valve/Source/maybe Half Life 3 news in the Valve thread if you're interested.

Just bought Xpadder. That should hopefully make Amneisa easier to play on my 50 inch TV.

Been playing Braid as well. I don't think I'm smart enough to complete it.

EDF insect armageddon for £7.50 - http://www.gamersgat...sect-armageddon
Can be registered on steam.

To change the 30fps cap to 60fps

Download a hex editor, HxD for free - http://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/

Start it up and open EDF-IA.exe (location: Steam\steamapps\common\earth defense force insect armageddon).

Scroll down to the line 00024BA0 and change the values "54 24 24" to "D1 8B D1" and save

fov changer - http://dl.dropbox.co... fov fix v2.EXE

Just load it up and leave it running as you play the game.

Whilst in game, press

+ Increase FOV by 5
- Decrease FOV by 5
Backspace - Set FOV to default value (60)
0 - Set FOV to 90
9 - Set FOV to 100
8 - Set FOV to 80

90 seems perfect for this game.

Worth the fannying about, I really enjoyed it, great old school shooter with loads of baddies. Little bit of mouse acceleration but you quickly get used to it.

Was watching a video of trailers for upcoming japanese indie pc games the other night and the first game looked very similar to edf :D - http://www.indiegame...et-82-trailers/

This new Uplay really is rubbish, I didn't mind it before the change as it always worked and was pretty quick. Now it takes ages to synch my cloud saves, often failing and losing them, I've lost progress a few times now with M&M Heroes VI. At least I can turn the cloud saving off, it's nice to have a backup but one that protects my saves instead of eating them. Quick check on the Ubi forums and it seems I'm not the only one and it's not something very new.

Google. Or ask in here. There's a (sort-of) list on wiki:

http://en.wikipedia...._of_Steam_games

But I'd double-check anything you see there elsewhere though.

There's a list here, I think at times it can be a little out of date. But you also have a case where some sites will get Steam keys for games that aren't on that list, for example Amazon US sold Steam keys for Max Payne 3, but the retailer should make those cases clear.

I dabbled in the PS3 version of this but it really is a poor clone of the Japanese ones. It'd be great if EDF 4 made it to PC, there's some great modding possibilities for the series.

Cheers for the FPS fix, it works a treat! I can't get your FOV changer to work though. I'm guessing maybe the game has been patched (again) since you made it?

I just tried it and it's working. Start the fix and leave it running while you play the game. Then once in game when you're running around press "0" on the main keyboard. Are you using the numpad? Sorry I should have made that clear. Give me a shout if it's still not working.
Maybe try alt tabbing out, closing the fix, giving it a slap and starting it again :D

I really liked it me. I agree, it's not as good as the 360 one but it's a really good game in it's own right I think. Playing EDF with mouse and keyboard is also a dream come true :D It is a really good game I reckon, had a blast playing it through on normal. Still stuck on 3-1 on hard, since I've reinstalled it I'll have another crack. I think I'm going to have to level up a different class.

The next two months are amazing for games.

I already have Dark Souls, Darksiders 2, Guild Wars 2 and Borderlands 2 pre-purchased.

All I need to do is win that £148,000,000 tomorrow so I have time to play them.

While we have our resident FOV expert in the house, can I ask how you alter it on Fallout New Vegas?
This stuff doesn't usually bother me but upon loading up the Ultimate edition it's like looking through a goldfish bowl at times! Really off putting.

Also it seems to run silky smooth with mouse/keyboard, but movement juddered slightly when using a 360 pad.. Any ideas?

If I hadn't spent 100+ hours playing Fallout 3 on 360 I would.. My brain is now unfortunately conditioned to play Fallout NV with a pad :(

So does anyone know a decent mouse and keyboard that I can use on my lap?
Started playing Dragon Age with Xpadder and was amazed by the top down baldur's gate style look, until I realised I couldn't seem in and couldn't get past the opening tutorial. I'm guessing certain games are really going to need a moust and keyboard to get the most out of them.

For new vegas, when in game open up the console by pressing "`" (under the escape key)
and then type fov 85 and press enter. I think it's 75 by default. Experiment and see which value you prefer. I think 85 is nice for that game.
As for the juddery pad, have you tried turning on vsync?

There a whole cavalcade of great mods for NV, including a bunch that tweak the camera for PC (right down to a Resi 4 third-person camera option). Much as I am loathe to admit it those FOV tweaks do make a difference.

Daily Deal: Fallout Collection £5.37, Fallout, FO 2 and FO: Tactics or £2.37 each.

I have all three of those on disk. All three! Stop it Steam!

Would love a tablet port of them, actually...

If I were to post my PC setting on here, would you guys be able to advise me on what kit I need to be sure to run the lastest games at maximum settings, while having some kind of future proofing? Giving me a ball park cost? Still pretty clueless about the actual hardware side of things.

I had the same problem with juddery performance - this fixed it for me:

What mods have people used for Doom 3 ? I remember Brer coming up with a list of 4/5 things he used but I can't find the post. I'm not sure if I'll like playing Doom 3 again but I'm still tempted to try it out again for a laugh after buying the complete Doom pack yesterday.

Not paid too much attention to this before, other than liking the name. After watching that I'm interested, love the music and style of it all.

Started playing Amnesia in earnest, comfortably sitting on my couch and using Xpadder so I can enjoy it on my big TV. Had to take my 5.1 headphones off and turn the lights on. It's fucking terrifying.
